Booked a table for Friday 16:00pm. Got there at 15:55 greeted by a lovely staff member and was taken straight to a table. Outside temperature was arou d 21c but inside was nice and cool with large industrial fans blowing so you felt a nice cool gentle breeze around the venue. A lovely staff member brought me and my mrs a menu each and whilst we was choosing we was brought a drinks menu. Didn't feel at all rushed. Drinks menu is immense and there's something for everyone so if your feeling adventurous you can knock yourself out. They even do alcoholic milkshakes. My mrs had double Malibu & coke with ice and I just had a corona and lime on draught. Food menu is also immense amd certainly plenty to choose from. I knew what I wanted before I got there so was just waiting for the Mrs to choose.
I had the snakebites for a starter that consists of mozerrella cheese in breadcrumb type balls (you get 3 good sized) served with some rocked and a lovely sauce (looked like 2 types of sauce drizzled over) me and the Mrs shared these as she was tempted by the look of them. We both really enjoyed them and they left a slight hot tingle in the mouth but no to hot but very tasty. Once we'd finished the starter we was asked if we wanted to get the main course started whilst ordering some more drinks. Again not rushed at all and a nice relaxed atmosphere. The server was lovely at all times and she really looked after us.
For the main i ordered the mini pitmaster with dirty fries (there's lots of different dirty fries to choose from) my mrs ordered salt and pepper chicken salad with a side of seasoned fries.
We didn't have to wait long at all for the food and my mrs was gobsmacked at the size of her portion π it was huge. I was brought my mini pitmaster straight after that and it looked pretty impressive.
We decided to get stuck in and all kept saying as I was eating mine was wow. The flavour and quality of the food was really good. We both really enjoyed our meals but couldn't finish them due to the amount served so was offered a box to take home what ever we wanted. We was offered desert but laughed as we had no chance of eating anything else. We where defeated π. Toilet facilities was OK too. I paid the bill of just under Β£83 and that included 2 double. Malibu and coke and 2 corona on draught.
Excellent service and was constantly checked on to see if everything was OK. Compliments to all the girls/ladies they where great and always smiled and also thele guys in the bus prepping the food.
We took our goody box home for our springer spaniel Lottie and as soon as we got home she was straight there sniffing the box. She also says compliments to the oldschool bbq bus as she ate the lot in about 30 seconds flat π (pics in the review) . We will definatly go back again but next time we will leave some room for desert. Thanks for looking after us. Great team.
We left before the live music started.
Sorry for any spelling mistakes I was busy whilst writing...
Β Β Β Read moreFirst time visiting "The Old School BBQ Bus" an this place surely didn't disappoint!!! Lip smackingly good!!π
Was on a mission for some barbecue as I had a right hankering for a good feed!! Have tried the likes of Red's & Hickery's bbq but fancied trying somewhere new - other places are good, but the same stuff is a bit repetitive..
I came across this place whilst searching online! An Well, I think this place has become the new go too!! Absolutely spot on! π€©π€© the food was amazing an im not jsut saying that. ππππ₯©π.
This is probably some of the best bbq I had since being in the state πΊπΈ. Real true orthentic favours!! The meats has such a depth of smoke from being cooked low an slow, just take the bbq to the next level. πππ
We tried the pitmaster for 2 as well as the spam fritters & Rattle snake bits π as a side.!! Thought this was the best option to get a feel for what they had to offer, as the menu is quite vast a bit spoiled for choice!!
It surely doesn't disappoint that was for sure. The portion sizes are massive, Border line needed to be wheeled out was that full.
Left with doggy bags for the bits we couldn't manage. Can confirm that kts just as nice the next day!! Nom nom nom ππ.
Also, don't forget to check out there, "Hangman Sauce," it's not for the faint harted, that's for sure π€―π₯΅π₯΅.. blow ya @#Β£# head off!!! π€―π€―ππ₯΅π₯΅..
They do offer a in house food challenge with this sauce playing centre stage!! a bit of a Man v Food kind thing, but be warned β οΈ it's not for the faint harted!!. Sauce is made up off Scorpion Chilli, Caroline Reaper & gost extract, it's not be messed about with. Seriously Seriously blows ya head off.!!! π€―π€―π€―... πΆπΆπΆπΆπ₯π₯
Must admit this place is set in the most unlikely of locations, and not quite what ya expect!! Once your inside the main building, you are in a full-on American themed bar / restaurant!! Place is very rustic themed, all the cooking is done on an old school bus! Place very much dose carry a wood shack kind vib - like some deep rooted louisiana forgotten moon shine hut!! Seriously rustic, but dose add to the the whole experience..
Deffenlty be returning an getting our bbq fix!! Certainly be recommending to family &...
Β Β Β Read moreAn awesome place with superb grub. I had The Houston burger with added brisket and pickles. Really nice thick juicy patty and high quality bacon & brisket. Just the right amount of sauce too. The bun was light but also held firm with the filling. The iron brew chicken fries were also delicious. Not a big fan of regular fries but these were crisp, fresh and well seasoned. Huge portion too! I also had tasty bbq beans and some refreshing coleslaw to cap a brilliant tray of food.
A delightful experience in a quirky establishment with terrific friendly staff. Highly recommend trying it for yourselves.
Next visit: Such incredible food!
I'd been meaning to make a trip back to 'the bus' after a superb helping of their amazing food a couple of years back. Once again I enjoyed an incredible meal in a cool venue with fantastic service too.
I had to get more of the divine smoked brisket so went for the 'Old Smoky Blue' burger which had a large helping of it as well as lots of smoked bacon. Really good quality beef patty which was cooked nicely and also had a nice smoky taste too. The mix of flavours between the BBQ and blue cheese sauces was unreal. A beautifully assembled messy burger. It was missing the pickles I'd paid extra to add but I was quickly brought some separately to add in myself.
Instead of fries I requested hash browns. They were delightfully soft and crispy. The kitchen staff provided fries too but I only picked a few out.
To finish off my feast I had hoisin sesame chicken strips. These were chunky strips with a brilliant thick crispy coating and plenty of delicious sauce plastered over them. Some of the best chicken strips I've had.
It was an incredibly enjoyable meal that left me perfectly fulfilled. Anyone saying this place is overpriced are clearly disillusioned to the amount other places charge and should expect these prices for top quality food. Although having to pay to add pickles to a burger is a bit cheeky. Especially when they should be in every burger in my opinion!
Not sure I'll get an opportunity to visit again which makes me a bit sad but I consider myself very fortunate to have sampled their delights a couple of...
