This was the 2nd year of going to the Voujon for our Xmas Dinner; last year was really good hence booking again. This year – OMG! – it was £30 a head and we were on the middle of 3 sittings at 3.30pm to be off table by 5.30pm. When we arrived it was packed, usual parking problems that go with eating at this restaurant. We were seated at our table for 6 which had been cleared but not prepared again for our arrival – plate with 8 popadoms on, 6 christmas crackers, 6 small plates but no cutlery, menus or usual stuff. It was obvious the staff were struggling to cope with the numbers seated. We were asked twice by different staff, quite abruptly what we wanted to order despite asking for a menu so we could choose. We eventually got the menu and the staff member, taking order was very abrupt and rushing us, talking over us when asking questions – even saying “you’ve been coming here years and you don’t know what the food is”. We asked for chips – “can’t have chips” – but the table behind us have just been served portions of chips? – “they are paying extra and it’s inconvenient to do”….. sorry…. Inconvenient ? I asked. “they are paying extra” he said – well we will pay extra says I…. much to his obvious displeasure. It’s safe to say the afternoon continued in a very similar way so to cut long story short – had to ask for menu’s twice, cutlery twice, iced water three times, told waiter (quite senior one) taking order that he was rushing us and he needed to allow us at least a few seconds to decide; had to have ‘heated discussion’ re availability of chips; Dessert time and menu said cheesecake or kulfi – we ordered to be told no cheesecake or kulfi but we have Yorkshire Pudding with sauce !!! (think he meant Xmas pudding). We said how can you have no desserts left when you have another full service at 5.30 what will you give them ? Miracle…. Suddenly they find a cheesecake and 3 kulfi’s as requested. Meanwhile we had been waiting for half a pint of bitter for 15 minutes for us to be told on asking again “we only sell pints”…. As that waiter was leaving table he bumped into another one stood there bringing us our half of bitter….it was absolute chaos. My husband goes to pay bill to old bloke behind counter to be told if you don’t have your receipt for your deposits it’s not counted. OMG… here we go. We had paid £60 deposit months ago – they told us they would not take any bookings for christmas day without a £10 deposit per person and had written it down in the book when we gave it to them. So I argued again and reminded him of their policy no deposit no booking – eventually after some underbreath but legible profanities from him – he took the £60 off. Told us the amount (over £230) chucked the paper under the counter and wanted paying. I asked for a copy of the bill and he refused – so I told him ‘no bill – no money’ simple as…. He then let me take a picture on my phone. Hubby accidently took his card out of machine too quickly and bloke had a melt down shouting and swearing at him for removing card. By this time a large queue had gathered outside and the staff were struggling to get them in for last sitting – not due to us, just others still in there. The food was nice. Service and some staff attitudes absolutely abysmal – just what I believe a Karen’s Diner to be. Luckily we didn’t let it spoil our day and found it that bad it was funny. Will we book again….not a chance…. Probably be barred after this review anyway. Grand Millon...

Introduction: Prepare to embark on a culinary adventure like no other at The Voujon Indian Restaurant. This gem offers an exquisite dining experience that will transport you to the vibrant streets of India. With a menu boasting a wide range of authentic dishes, impeccable service, and a warm ambience, The Voujon is a haven for food enthusiasts seeking an unforgettable meal
Appetisers: To start my culinary journey, I began with the classic combination of poppadoms and chutneys. The crispy and light poppadoms served as the perfect vessel to scoop up the array of flavorful chutneys. The burst of flavours awakened my taste buds and set the stage for the delicious feast ahead.
For my starters, I indulged in the seekh kebab and chicken chat puri. The seekh kebab was a true delight, with succulent minced lamb infused with aromatic spices and grilled to perfection. The smoky flavour and tender texture of the kebab were complemented by a zingy mint sauce, creating a harmonious combination of taste and texture. The chicken chat puri, a popular street food delicacy, featured tender pieces of chicken cooked in a tangy and spicy sauce, served on a crispy and light puri. The explosion of flavours in each bite left me craving for more.
Main Course: The star of my main course was the chicken tikka madras, a dish that epitomises the bold and robust flavours of Indian cuisine. The tender chicken tikka was bathed in a luscious and aromatic madras sauce, infused with a tantalising blend of spices. The heat of the dish was perfectly balanced, allowing the flavours to shine through without overpowering the palate. Accompanied by a side of chips, the chicken tikka madras was a symphony of flavours that satisfied our cravings.
Breads: No Indian meal is complete without a selection of bread, and The Voujon's plain naan did not disappoint. The naan was soft, fluffy, and perfectly baked, with just the right amount of char on the edges. It served as the ideal accompaniment to the rich and flavorful main course, allowing us to savour every bite.
Conclusion: My dining experience with The Voujon Indian Restaurant was nothing short of extraordinary. From the moment I called the restaurant, I was greeted with warm hospitality and attentive service. The quality and authenticity of the dishes, from the appetisers to the main course, showcased the culinary expertise of the chefs. Each bite was a revelation, transporting me to the vibrant streets of India.

Read moreThis review is more around the meal deals that Voujon promotes as amazing deals on Facebook and blocking me when asking a question.
Firstly, earlier in the year they plugged the relaunch of the AMAZING 4 course meal deal over several postings and when it was finally revealed, there was no difference, only an extortionate £5 increase and you no longer have to book in advance, but if you just walk in they will charge you an additional £5 for the pleasure!
You would think in the current climate, you’d be grateful of any walk in’s but no, just complete greed in my opinion. Who in the right mind would pay this anyway? It would work out more expensive than going off the menu!!
Now they've launched another meal deal to celebrate serving the people of Failsworth for the past 17 years. This AMAZING offer is a 3 course meal deal for £15.95.
I asked a question on Facebook as to whether poppadom’s were included, to which I was BLOCKED instantly, so the question couldn’t be answered. I then decided to ring the restaurant and ask the question, (to which I already knew the answer would be no), but I wanted to hear it from the horse’s mouth. It was on the call, that it was confirmed that poppadom’s are NOT included.
How can this be an amazing deal? He takes poppadom’s off and reduces the price, so customers are no better off as most would buy them anyway!
I for one will never visit again. There’s plenty of better meal deal offers at Indian restaurant’s in the surrounding area, that are all cheaper and better quality...
