Read moreProbably the best cafe in Cowley road... despite stiff competition. One of my favourite places to go as has bagels, amazing ice cream, and great hot drinks. Oh, and WiFi: unlike G&D's in St Aldates. 😜
In normal times, this is a great place to meet and chill. IMHO the best of the three G&D's cafes in terms of open space, layout, and plug sockets - never feels like the queue of customers is behind your back.
Open during the pandemic, but only for take-out and only until 7pm (as opposed to the usual 9pm). Even does Deliveroo take-out.
Went there physically in lockdown 3.0 (09.01.20) and got some delicious Lotus biscuit ice cream. 🍦 Also a Double chocolate cookie 🍪 , and they're still doing bagels 🥯. In lockdown they seem to be rotating their ice creams less, but really cannot blame them for that and just glad they're still going. 😋
Just gone Vegan and they freely admit: they don't really cater fully for that (though, to be fair, they are better than most). However they do Vegan bagels that are better than the usual stuff. Also sorbets, meaning you get a good ice-cream experience as a Vegan (that other places really don't do). SUGGESTION: if they used Oat, Almond, Soya, or Coconut milk ice-creams, they'd have something even better ice-cream wise. But that's like lecturing Sir Ian McKellen on acting. 😏
Not been there? DEFINITELY give it a go. I don't own shares, but kinda...

We walked in and a ‘girl’ was busy cleaning the coffee area, a chap was putting something in the microwave. Neither acknowledged our presence we waited and waited expecting some acknowledgement of our presence. We thought maybe they were closing. We went outside to check the opening hours. They were not closing and saw two students go inside and who were immediately served. We walked back in asked to have a coffee and was told we would need to wait for a few minutes by the chap; who was by the way quite polite. I did say well we did wait before and we were ignored and the ‘girl’ then decided to speak to us with a real attitude and told us she was busy cleaning. We decided this was not a nice place to end our break. I’m guessing the ‘girl’ doesn’t like anyone over 20. And believe me this is not written by an old ‘out of touch’ person. We live in Brighton and I can tell you we haven’t met with the kind of rudeness we at all in all our years in Brighton. As they say take a chill...
