Cocos Takeaway — Restaurant in Portsmouth

TL;DR - Extremely poor customer service and lack of communication within the business and with customers. Waited 2 hours for food before cancelling due to a lack of apology and an unwillingness to rectify the situation.

I have ordered from this place a number of times and the food is nice most (not all) times as the other reviews will highlight. However, if you're after a standard of customer service and a reliable delivery time then I can assure you that you will not find that here, as the other reviews will also highlight.

I placed my order at 7pm. I called back at 8pm to find out where the food was to be told the driver had just left with it and would be 5 minutes. I call back 20 minutes later to find out that I was lied to and the driver had not actually left with my meal. This was because, after 1 hour and 30 minutes, the jollof rice had run out shortly after placing my order so a new batch had to be made, which I was not informed of.

I told the person on the phone that I would wait for the jollof if it wouldn't be too long - the response being that it would be around 10 mins. At 9pm I still had not received my food so I called back to be told that my food would be another 30 minutes...

At this point I made it clear that I was not happy to be paying for an order I waited 2 hours for. The person I spoke to said he wouldn't give me a free meal but would "throw a couple of pieces of chicken in there". I found this laughable and with an attitude I was asked if I wanted to cancel the order, which I did.

Busy periods do not excuse a lack of customer service and I can guarantee I won't be ordering from here again. A severe lack of communication in running this business so expect to have problems...

We ordered from the Too Good to Go app for dinner tonight, and are so disappointed in what we had. We love trying out new places but this was a let down 😔

Positives: My wife collected the food and the server was very nice and good customer service.

Cons: when we got home to eat. We opened our bag and we had 5 chicken wings mix of plain battered, sweet chilli and bbq. The battered wings were very bad, no good flavour at all, dried up and lacking in chicken. They tasted like dried up flour. The sweet chilli and bbq were not nice and had a weird flavour to them. We also got given a whole bag of plain white rice which is flavourless anyway but it didn't taste fully cooked.

My wife ordered & bought jollof rice separately as we really wanted some. Again lacking in flavour and the worst jollof rice we have ever had.

All in all from the order we had from Too Good To Go and the jollof rice. It was definitely the worst food we've eaten and we love all foods...wouldn't reccomend or go back again...

As a long term customer who has actually returned over the years purely for the authentic flavours and quality of food. I am disgusted in what this place has turned into since the new ownership. They have changed recipes of the jollof, the mac, the coleslaw and other items and they are now disgusting. The place is a mess with kitchen staff wearing sliders with bear feet out. Service is slow and disorganised. Food is reheated in a microwave or cold and flavourless. Honestly such a shame to see somewhere that had massive potential decline like it has. I will not be revisiting coco’s again after the last visit where I experienced the slowest service I have ever seen (1 hour for a walk in take away order) as well as seeing that the recipe of the jollof now tastes of curry powder. Honestly all the staff and owners need to sell this place to someone who values the culture...
