I cannot fault the staff. They were very friendly.
The food was good however I can't say it was anything special.. especially not for the price I paid. £10 got me a full English with 2 eggs 2 sausages 2 tomatoes 3 bacon some wedges and mushrooms. The food was good in taste and quality and came out piping hot. I had to pay £3 extra for a cup full of their "baffled spicy beans" and again they were nothing special. To be fair if you're going to brand beans in that way I feel they should be included in the breakfast and not as an extra.
The hot chocolate I ordered was creamy and tasty as well but at £4 for a large, I've had better for less.
All in all the food as a whole was good but considering the cafe has so much competition close by that offers similar quality for less, it's baffling (see what I did there) why they would have such steep prices and nothing unique to show for it.
Finally I'd like to talk about the decor. The lighting is very dim which does make the place feel cozy but with the plasterboard covered counters and the 2oodennfloor board, it kind of feels like it's a place that is only half finished..
Seating in the cafe is quite cozy and not in a good way. To one side is a long bench that covers the full wall with tables lined up covering the distance and a stool on the other side of each table. If you're going in for a quiet priv as the conversation forget it because as more people come in they are sitting right next to you with no separation at all... I get they are limited on space and have had 5o make do but when I'm eating I don't particularly want someone else's back side squeezing between the table to get onto the bench.
All in all I'll give 4 out of 5 for food but I'll knock off 1 star for the price and I'll give 3 out of 5 for the actual look and feel...
Read moreLocated in the Fratton area, not far from Fratton Railway Station, in Fawcett Road, the location is slightly off the tourist areas of Portsmouth, but they have a great collection of quality food and drink, including breakfast and brunch They have just started doing an evening menu towards the end of the week I had a smoked salmon with cream cheese bagel and an almond pain au chocolat with a small latte, the bagel was warm, something you sometimes do not get, They also have a smaller branch in Broad Street , Old Portsmouth located not far from Gunwharf , with my favourite , cinnamon roll, sadly not available on the day, just across the quiet road , near Oyster House, there are some benches, which overlooks Portsmouth Harbour with views towards IOW, They also have a kiosk on Southsea beach, which because of its location is sometimes not open, at the moment and the forseeable future because of ongoing sea defences work the kiosk is next to the fenced off area The Briny Restaurant close by is still open despite the ongoing...
Read moreWe arrived late on a Sunday afternoon but had no issues being served coffee. We were told that coffee is served up until closing time and not before, unlike some indépendant coffee establishments. The batista was knowledgeable and happily took the time to discuss their particular differences between coffee options. There was also an offer to vary number of shots used etc.. We also tried some small pastries (something like a bakewell tart) which were delicious! The café is dog friendly as sign posted on the door and the sunny back garden had benches to sit at. My flat white was £2.70. Most coffees come small, medium or large and are cheaper or match than the chain equivalents. I'll have a few more coffees before reviewing their taste, which could take a few months as I don't live near, but it was good enough that I'll be coming here over Southsea Coffee Co. for the...
