We made a booking for 7.30 a party of 10 for my son’s 40 birthday.when arrived they said to take a seat as they were not ready to seat us, a few minutes later they seated us on the other side of the restaurant where they store there what they can’t place in there storage room. This was not our first time here and have always found it very pleasant with great food being served. But for some unknown reason the restaurant has a new owner and have to say that the standard of service along with the food has changed drastically. Inexperienced servers giving us other people’s main coarse even before we received our starters and challenge they promptly realised there mistake and cleared the table. Our starters eventually came and we’re fine then after a long wait the main coarse came out and all of the food was barely warm when we told the server he just disappeared not even the manager came to apologise. The whole experience totally ruined what was a great day celebrating my son birthday, there is no excuse for this type of treatment and we challenge the bill which they said had to be paid in full only offering 2 £20 vouchers for a return visit. Why not just take the £40 off the bill the manager gave his reasons for the poor quality of food and service by saying they were so busy and that the side of the restaurant that we were seated was part of the problem of the food being warm saying that the air conditioning made the food cold when being served to us. Absolutely absurd. Never will I or anyone from our party. Will return to this restaurant terrible terrible service food, barely warm for...

Worst place to visit in Portsmouth – Gandhi Restaurant

This restaurant came with good reviews, but my experience was nothing short of disappointing. The staff were welcoming at first, but the food and the overall experience were extremely poor.

The restaurant itself was almost empty, with only two occupied tables but it was late and there was a concert so totally get it. The staff made few errors while taking our order, which we overlooked. However, things quickly went downhill. The Coke served was completely flat, and the onion bhaji was spoiled. After we complained, it was replaced.

When the main courses arrived, every single vegetable dish was undercooked. We pointed this out politely, explaining that the aubergine in particular was not cooked properly. My friend remarked that “for Indians this seems undercooked.” Instead of taking feedback professionally, the staff member responded with an appalling statement: “Oh ma’am, you are right – this restaurant is not for Indian people, it’s for English people.”

I was shocked. To make such a dismissive and discriminatory comment, especially in a restaurant named Gandhi with a Gandhi statue inside, is beyond unacceptable. How can you run an Indian restaurant, use Gandhi’s name, and then openly declare it is not for Indians? That is not just offensive, it is downright racist.

Yes, they eventually gave us a discount at the end of the meal, but no discount can undo what was said. This restaurant completely failed in both food and respect. I would never recommend Gandhi...

Very disappointed. Booked table for my bd, had confirmed email, but wasn't prepared anything, waiter said owner didn't pass on info or someone wrote in handover book, but he didn't read it, oh so simple yeah and yet not professional. Service not good, chef also not up to standard also made mistakes and gave cold starters then mixed up main meal. Meals were not as tasty and aslo not freshly cooked. Asked for ice for my big water bottle, he brought 2,3 cubes.... I mean hello, never had this anywhere. Then I went to pay at the bar as I was going to ladies anyway, wanted make cc payment, waiter came and said he'd give me 20% off if I pay by cash??!!! First of all I have VIP card with 20%off and second of all why he'd give discount on cash. I didn't have enough to pay anyway and so had to ask my guests to add cash to be able to pay for my bd dinner! And so in the end of the story.... Asked to pack some things that I could not finish, guess what! He just gave boxes and we had to pack it ourselves!? Serious??? I've been in this restaurant many times before, but now this was major disappointment and my guests were there for first time and I think for last. I made an advert of it from my prev experience and got very disappointed, felt like ruined...

We celebrated our sons birthday there, with a minimum of 130 peeps, let me tell you first how amazing their service was! They were indeed extremely nice and the way they treated us and all the guests, we were really really happy for choosing this place. Their service was 10 on 10. Iam sure I'd love to go there with family and friends too many times. Food was great as well. Specially the Samosa and the pakoras. Also the way they cooked the lamb was exactly how I like it to be. Thankyou for all the effort to make my sons first birthday special. When we were returning my son received gifts from them as well. Thanks for those too ! ❣️❣️❣️

This Indian restaurant I recently visited truly excelled in both their service and atmosphere, making it a delightful spot for both takeaway and dining in. The staff's attentiveness and friendliness added a wonderful touch to the overall experience. Whether you're looking to enjoy a cozy meal in the restaurant or prefer the convenience of takeaway, this place caters to both preferences seamlessly. The ambiance was inviting, creating a warm and welcoming setting that enhanced the dining experience. I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone seeking a fantastic Indian cuisine experience, whether dining in or opting for takeaway.

Fantastic Indian restaurant in Portsmouth. Great food and friendly service. If you are catching an overnight cross channel ferry this is a good place to eat beforehand as it's only a 5 minute walk from the terminal, although there's no parking directly outside. If you have leftovers and want a doggy bag, they bring it to the table so you can be sure that what you are getting is what you want
