The Guildhall Village — Restaurant in Portsmouth

Badly organised.

Visited for a friend’s birthday. Can’t expect being served like the ritz at a casual pub but there was effectively no service at all. We went to the bar and asked if we could order food, the staff member said yes as long as we were ordering chips as the kitchen was closing soon (but was not yet closed).

We ordered two lots of chips and waited, but after a while they hadn’t arrived. Asked the same staff member to check on the chips, and after five minutes the manager came upstairs looking panicked and rushing about asking who ordered the chips. Ourselves and another person who had ordered after us were then told that the kitchen was ‘now’ closed so we wouldn’t be getting any food, and were offered refunds (which would be the bare minimum requirement considering otherwise we would have been paying for goods we never received). Ultimately, the frustration comes in because all of this could have been avoided if the kitchen and bar staff communicated better and the organisation of the venue was better all around. Additionally, telling us the kitchen was ‘now’ closed was pointless as we put the order in when the kitchen was still open, as confirmed by the bar staff.

However, the two bar staff acted like they didn’t want to be there and that serving drinks was an inconvenience to them, so perhaps we should have seen the warning signs and taken what they assured us with a pinch of salt.

Place is decorated okay and there are good activities but the service is just not there. Outside of the food issues there was a constant wait for drinks even when we were the only people at the bar. This was easily the worst place we have been. You can't simply order as usual, you have to scan a barcode, slowly download an app, install it, register all your details, get a pin code, enter it, enter your card details before you even order. After 25 minutes we were in disappear, hungry and thirsty. We ordered, only to be told we had ordered the wrong way, ahhhhhh! We had to reorder from the beginning...we just want to eat! If there are a few of you expect to hand around someone's phone and order one at a time, very slowly. Then someone pressed the wrong button and got something else. Then the food was dry and salty, we gave up, left most of it and couldn't be bothered to wait for the pint ordered with the meal that didn't arrive. Oh dear venue for my Christmas office lunch and think that was the worst meal out in Portsmouth I have ever been served . One girl serving behind bar upstairs really did her best all on her own to also distribute food two plates at a time . Starter was burnt Brie cranberry parcels , just hard overcooked bread with no filling and a pot of mayo. The chicken burger so hard and over cooked small piece of chicken swamped in some kind of dressing . Chips were edible. Literally looked nothing like the menu offering online. So I’m not sure if precooked , understaffing issue but a complete waste of money. The only food that seemed ok were pigs in blankets and the pizzas and the ice creams.
