We attended a religious exhibition at the Discovery Centre, I have a Blue Badge and parked in a disabled space near the door. I was horrified to get a parking penalty charge. I have phoned the Cathedral Office, just an answering machine, and emailed twice with no response whatsoever. The parking company has rejected my appeal saying their signage is perfectly legal and clear. I disagree. I would have paid if I had known that I had to. This may be 'legal' but is it moral or Christian? I am disgusted and will never go back. In fact, if this is how the Catholic Church is treating people now then I want nothing more to do with it. It's not like it was, no longer cares about people and no different from any other hypocritical groups. They should try reading about a visit Jesus made to the Temple. I'm utterly disgusted. It's hard enough having severe mobility issues without further punishment. Photo is a screenshot of the 'clearly marked entrance' from...

Always a good place to park if you are in the town. The cathedral itself is one of the simplest decorated Catholic churches I have ever been in and would suit the Vatican, as opposed to the opulence in Rome, charging its own parishioners money to see previous Popes ridiculously priced clothing and the dome's whispering gallery. As an aside, be careful going to ST Mark's in Venice, the original "bronze" horses, stolen from Constantinople are not those on the upper facade. To see the originals, you need to pay to go to an upper room and see them, you even have to pay to go to the altar in ST Mark's. However, ST John's in Portsmouth is...

I visit about once a week and it's lovely and peaceful and perfect for a prayer or two and to light a candle! Very noisy this time as children very excited which I presume was something to do with Christmas so understandable. I go to a quiet area of the Church but a few adults had no regard for me saying prayers. Talking loudly etc but a glare did the trick! 😆 Sorry 🤣 I married there in 1967 and its as...

Katedrála svatého Jana byla postavena v roce 1882. Krásné místo a kus anglické historie. Krásné vitráže, vnitřní výzdoba, ..... Architektura, klid, ticho, historie, duchovní atmosféra, to vše na vás v této budově dolehne a poznáte vlastní nicotu. Starý kostel stál v Portsea (Prince George Street) a měl malou kapacitu. Další renovace a velké změny proběhly v letech 1970, 1982 a 2001.

I'm not a religious man but I do like a church, it's all about the architecture for me and St John's is a beautiful building, as with all churches/cathedrals it does have a calming atmosphere with its stunning stained glass windows, was a nice little stop off before heading into the naval harbour.
