I would like to preface by saying that I have never been compelled to write a review before, however today's experience is worth writing about.
We moved to the Redhill area about 6 months ago and have been so pleased with the local restaurants nearby, that record came to a shattering halt with our experience at The Hatch today.
Since walking by The Hatch a couple months ago, I have really been looking forward to trying it out for a meal. Being that it is about a mile walk to get to for us, we thought that being such a lovely day today that we would walk over for Sunday roast lunch. We read the reviews, reserved a table and were really looking forward to enjoying a great meal.
When we arrived, we were one of the first tables sat. When we approached the bar to order, the girl taking our order was curt and rather short with us. She was obviously busy and we understood that sometimes we just have "one of those days". She miscalculated our order total (my maths calculated that she forgot to charge us for something as the amount was too low), I pointed this out and paid at the bar.
We were served our starters about 20 minutes after we ordered. Tables were filling up and 1.5 HOURS AFTER we ordered, noticed people which had arrived long after us were being served their meals. I approached the bar to ask about our meals and was told there was a delay in service (despite us ordering when the restaurant was not busy), also, because we ordered starters. With a huff, she stormed away to check on our order and was told it was being plated. 10 minutes later, I approached the gentleman behind the bar, explained the situation and asked if we could kindly cancel our food order. He said he would check to see what was going on and came back with our food.
Relieved to finally be getting our food, we noticed we didn't have utensils. Mentioned this and got them a few minutes (not seconds) later. At this point, it should have been a happy ending, but sadly not.
My husband's order was wrong and when it was corrected (missing bacon on a burger), it came back with bacon that was cooked on a filthy grill. The side of mayo requested came out in a half used jar (health and safety comes to mind - who else dipped what in that jar). As for the roasts my son and I ordered, they just were not good. We were just so disappointed with everything, we couldn't even finish the meals and left. What a waste of food. And money - I would have rather given the £50 to someone in need so they could have bought food for the week.
Terribly disappointed and can't in good concision recommend this...
Read moreThis is a response to Jonathan Dalgleish’s unfair review and inaccurate account. I was on the table next to him. The tables in that whole area of the bar had been reserved for a wake but busy members of staff had forgotten to put a sign on that particular table. He decided to sit there, disregarding what was obviously a gathering which included that table. Polite member of staff came and repeatedly apologised and offered to move him and his lady companion to another table or give a full refund. This gentlemen started shouting and swearing in front of children and directly at the member of staff from the outset and was extremely rude and obnoxious. Another gentleman customer tried to help and he also got the short end of this reviewer’s temper. I’ve been to The Hatch many times and have had nothing but extremely positive experience. The staff are amazing and the owners have done a fantastic job of renovating and turning this historic pub around which under previous ownership had lost its way. I’m so glad that people like the rude reviewer will not be visiting this much-loved heart of the our community. Good...
Read moreI came to the Hatch last night in a group of three, after hearing that it had reopened. We had drinks and then dinner and the entire experience was just fantastic.
From the moment we walked in, the pub felt welcoming and warm; a proper English pub. We found a comfy corner and tried the mulled cider and the ales from the local Godstone Brewery, both of which were amazing. From a quick glance, the rest of the selection on tap and behind the bar looks very well thought out and varied. The landlord was friendly to chat to and very welcoming; happy to talk through the local beer selections and breweries alike.
We had two servings of the Reigate Royal Sausages and mash and one of the steak and kidney pies. All three were fresh, flavoursome and very well cooked and presented. The food you would expect from a proper local pub, who take pride in their offerings.
All in all, I'm excited to now have a local that is friendly, welcoming and well stocked and will be...
