1066 Bakery Cafe Kitchen, Devonshire Road, Bexhill — Restaurant in Rother

I'd love to put this place at 5 - I'd love to, genuinely. The staff are nice, even pleasant. The food is comfortable - not outstanding, but comfortable. It is, by far, the best place in Bexhill to eat or drink in the day. Go nowhere else.

However, the coffee is a constant hit or miss. I drink cortados, macchiatos and espressos, so I can taste the coffee and enjoy it. But depending on the day and the barista, the coffee can be exceptional or less than mediocre. Sometimes, it's clearly a fresh grind, a powerful punch of acidity and a sweet toastiness that makes it worth the £2+ drink cost, with a clear separation between textured milk and espresso that only drives the taste home. Sometimes the difference between 1066 and subway coffee down the street is textured milk. Sometimes a cortado helps express the coffee, and it's the best experience you can get this side of hand-expressed setup - sometimes it's a very, very small latte.

You might enjoy your drinks milkier than I do - awesome, you do you, - but keep in mind that that same lack of expression and punch is going to impact the quality of your drink. Steamed milk does not a latte make.

Come here, roll the dice - the food is the best around and the staff will make you smile - absolutely. It'd be a crime not to. If you have the same experience I do, leave a review. It might be technique or machinery, but I really want this...

I am a regular customer of this cafe with my husband and kids on our trips to Bexhill. We visited today and spent nearly £50 on lunch and various cakes for the kids, and I also ordered a pot of tea for 1 for my husband. I requested an extra cup as I fancied a bit of tea, but didn’t need a whole pot. The staff explained that the company policy was one cup per pot and that they wouldn’t be giving me an extra cup. How ridiculous. I explained I didn’t want a whole pot to myself. But unfortunately instead of using their initiative, they decided to stick with their ‘company policy’ line which quite frankly is ludicrous. I am a paying customer and spent a fair amount today on lunch for my whole family, only to be met with this ridiculous response. I will not be returning. Hopefully your company policy to refuse customers an extra cup to save the company a few quid was worth it. Out of principle I will not be returning. I’d advise you change...

I was in a support call with a client and I initially had a takeaway as I was planning to eat it on my way to the next client for later. I also ordered a hot chocolate to drink inside the bakery. Whilst drinking my hot chocolate, i decided to eat my sandwich as my client said i wont have enough time to eat it when traveling to the next client. So whilst eating, a staff approached me and said I should not eat the sandwich i bought as a takeaway as i should have paid for an eat-in price and not a takeaway price. I explained that it is a takeaway but because realizing i will not have enough time to eat, i ate it whilst having my hot chocolate. The staff said i should pay the extra £1 for eating the takeaway that i just bought. Really ridiculous for not being considerate thinking i am a carer who was supporting a special needs client inside...
