The Oxford English Dictionary defines a burrito as âa Mexican dish consisting of a tortilla rolled around a savory filling, typically minced beef or beans,â with an emphasis on being rolled. So when my daughter chose this restaurant and ordered a burrito, we initially questioned why we received a loosely and sparsely folded parcel with cheese on top, partially hidden by rice and salad. The staff were adamant; despite showing them a picture of a burrito (similar to the one on their website), they insisted that this was indeed a burrito and nothing would convince them otherwise.
My daughter persisted until she reached the base, which, due to significantly less filling than expected, being folded instead of rolled, and being baked, resulted in it being rock solid and inedible. I then gave my daughter the remainder of my burger (which, for balance, was very good) and returned the dish to an unconcerned waiter.
Mistakes happen; it is all about how you deal with them. Therefore, I was surprised to see the returned item still on the bill. When I inquired about this, I was initially told it was because my daughter had consumed the rice and salad along with most of the dish posing as a burrito. I pointed out the plate full of uneaten rice and salad. She then mentioned she wouldn't refund me as she anticipated me leaving a negative review... challenge accepted young lady,...
Read moreWhile visiting Rye with my family on a Sunday , we were looking for somewhere to eat but everywhere seemed closed or no longer serving food. About to give up, we by chance had a conversation with with some ladies who'd stopped in a car, they pointed us towards the right end of the town, the phrase "oh there's a Mexican place" filling us with hope as we headed off. We were not to be disappointed! Upon arrival, our hopes were raised further by the vibrant, but clean interior, and upbeat, but not deafening music. After a friendly greeting, our party of six were quickly seated, and drink orders taken while we perused the menu. I couldn't choose between cajun chicken tacos or spicy beef burritos, so being a growing boy of 44Ÿ years, I ordered both. And ate both, so full of flavour, juicy, not greasy, quite possibly the best Mexican food we've ever eaten. My wife had mayan pineapple chicken, and one of my daughters enjoyed her steak so much she actually got emotional about it. Brilliant food, wonderful friendly staff, we will definitely go again next time we visit Rye. Highly, highly...
Read moreI had a horrific experience at this restaurant. One of Cholula Hot Sauce bottles had a few drops of Ghost Hot Pepper mixed into it. The staff by their own admission âmixed up the bottlesâ and as a result I ended up putting some onto my chips. My tongue, lips and back of the neck felt like they were on fire. My lips swelled up and it took my breath away. The staff despite knowing and admitting to their mistake, did absolutely nothing to help. My friends who I was travelling with went and asked them for milk as they were concerned about my wellbeing. I approached the guy that was in charge and pointed out what had happened and his flippant response was âwell this is a Mexican restaurant, what do you expect?â. He failed to show any remorse and put the blame solely on me. Incredible. Completely disgusted by this response and I will be formally writing to the management. If this is how they treat their customers would you really want to eat at this place. I always look for the good in every place I visit, but I am going to break a habit of a lifetime and say to anyone that reads...
