Situated on a pretty cobbled street, an old building so the rooms were not the largest and there were narrow steep stairs and low ceilings. They allowed dogs to stay which was nice and the breakfast was very tasty. They even ensured both our dogs both had a sliced up sausage each, every morning. There was a little selection of juices, cereals, fruit and yoghurt as well as a hot breakfast cooked to order. May sound silly but it was the hottest breakfast I have ever been served! Nothing was lukewarm, everything appeared to have been cooked fresh with toast also provided for your table. There was also a great range from full English, to smoked fish, rarebit to eggs royale. As we had dogs we were situated in the bar area that just came off the breakfast room, so it was nice to be there but not be with everyone else. An honesty bar for some drinks and snacks also available. The room we had was up 2 flights of stairs and our bathroom was not in our room, but just across the corridor which was different. The bathroom had a mix of old inkeeping decor as well as modern fittings. I had to sit in the bath to shower due to the ceiling being so low as there was nowhere to hang up the shower head, so probably not ideal for some people, but that's what you get for such an old building. The room did get quite warm, but a fan was supplied and there was also tea/coffee and hot chocolate available as well as biscuits and a chocolate by your bedside each time housekeeping went in each day. The hot chocolate was a lovely touch as not everyone drinks tea/coffee and it was tasty. They also have parking which is a 4min walk away for £3 per day, but you can pull up to drop off/collect belongings first before parking the car. Personally I would not stay here again with 2 young dogs as I would prefer to stay somewhere that had a garden, especially being 2 flights up and then needing to rush downstairs when they needed the toilet, but we were visiting a friend and had booked this when we had our 2 older dogs, who unfortunately passed away a couple of months prior within months of each other, saying that I dont think they would've been able to climb the stairs as they are steep. If you are visiting Rye then this is a great place to stay due to its location and...
Read moreFirst nights stay we had been bitten a few times whilst sleeping as well as low water pressure in the shower (trickled out) and simply asked the manager if we could move rooms for the second night. The Manager said we will sort this out after we have had breakfast. We suggested that we pay for the first night and second night we would stay at a different hotel if it was not possible. At breakfast his wife came to the table and asked us in front of everyone at breakfast despite her husband saying we will discuss the issue after. We stated the issue and simply got a defensive response. She came back after saying she had put out room back on booking.com and we should contact booking.com to let them know what was going on. My breakfast was ruined as I was sorting this out whilst eating. After liaising with booking.com I went to see the manager at the front desk who said they will only refund us for the second night if they could get the room booked. This did not make sense as we would not bank on waiting for the room to be booked and having us with no room for the night. The couple were super defensive and I found them to be extremely unhelpful. My partner spoke to them a few hours later and they then said they would sort us a different room for the second night which is what we originally requested! That evening the lady confronted my partner once again in front of guests in the bar area about a bad review which we did not leave. Next day I missed out on breakfast because I felt uncomfortable and we did not feel welcome at all. We will not be returning...
Read moreJust got back from a lovely weekend down in Rye and made even better by all the staff at Jeakes House. Lisa gave us a very warm welcome, settled us in and told us about the local area and the options available for food and drink. Owners Doris and Chris were very friendly and also gave great recommendations about things to see and do in the local area.||Rooms was very nice and had everything you wanted so no issues and requesting to borrow an iron on each evening was no drama at all.||The honesty bar was a lovely touch and made use of that on one night, it was fully stocked with loads of different options and a nice setting to get to meet and chat to other people staying at the hotel.||Breakfast was fantastic with lots to choose from. I had Smoked Haddock the 1st morning and Eggs Royale the 2nd and both were very good and filling. Service throughout Breakfast by the staff was first class.||The hotel and the local area is perfect for a couple wanting to get away for some relaxation, to stroll about from shop to shop and for great food and drink.||Would...
