I want to start my review by saying that I have visited number 16 before, numerous times, both for food and for beverages. The times I've visited before were lovely experiences, unfortunately after my most recent visit, my opinion has changed.
I arranged to meet a friend in Bingham for a drink/coffee so we could talk and catch up, we considered Costa but I like to support more local business' so we chose Number 16.
Upon entering it was busy, but tables were free, we were taken to a table and sat down, then the waiter/manager put the food menus down. We explained we didn't want to eat and the menus were removed.
A short while later we had our drink orders taken, juice and a peppermint tea. They arrived fine and were as expected.
This is where the experience went down hill, within 30 minutes of being there (20 minutes roughly of having our drinks) and talking, I was constantly distracted by numerous waiters staring at us, asking how the drinks were, walking by and seeing how much we had left, it was clear they wanted our table to the point where it was actually making me feel distracted and uncomfortable at how we were being rushed out the door. It was that intense my friend and I couldn't even have a conversation.
The final straw was when the manager gave the waiter our bill, which we didn't ask for, and said they'd leave it there, a clear indication of wanting us to move our arses and that we were now an inconvenience.
I appreciate we didn't eat, but it was just short of £6 for a tea bag with some water and a small bottle of juice.
Our conversation was cut short and unfortunately i'll never choose to visit...
Read moreDropped-in ad-hoc, and ordered a couple of coffees and asked what cakes were available. Lotus Biscoff was recommended and my wife suggested I’d love it, as she’d seen a rash of Lotus Biscuit cakes bounded about on the internet, stuffed with Lotus Biscuits at every turn. What arrived was....disappointing 😐. A sponge cake with middle and top layer of a coffee-esque cream, and on top, one half of a broken Lotus Biscuit. Not quite what I’d imagined, but I’m the type of person who, unless I have to slice mould off one edge, will eat it anyway. The excellent waitress asked if I’d enjoyed it, but then told me it was a vegan recipe. I’m not vegan, vegetarian, or allergic to any ingredients, but wondered why it’s not required of food providers to state that a product is vegan etc, when offering it. Taste is always compromised in my opinion, and I would have had an alternative cake had I known. A tad disappointed 😐.
Otherwise, great setting, excellent staff, friendly service,...
Read moreFirst time coming here, we bought our eldest daughter 11 and our youngest 4 months old for lunch. We were seated quickly however it took them 30 minutes to take our order and a further 30 minutes just to get a coffee. We almost walked out before the drinks arrived. Our waitress was running around and two others were barely doing anything however when we asked after 15 minutes of sitting without anyone taking our order the waitress said she’d get the other waitress to come to us, while she stood there watching over her tables. Very frustrating watching two waitresses standing around, one even said hello to her friend on the square while we waited 40 minutes for a coffee. The food took ages to arrive too. Because of how long it took we barely got to eat before our 4 month old started crying and we had to leave half of it uneaten. It’s a real shame because the waitress was friendly and the food was great but the service was so slow and it ruined the...
