We’ve been loyal customers of the Royal Sovereign for a long time, but last night’s experience was not only disappointing, it was chaotic, unprofessional, and, at points, deeply disrespectful.
We placed five food orders, and three of them were served incorrectly. Despite never selecting the option to swap chips for salad, that’s what appeared on the bill and this mistake was used repeatedly to deflect responsibility. One of the waitresses came over three separate times just to show us the receipt, as though flashing a piece of paper would magically correct the error or justify the cold food.
The meals were taken back and returned cold. When we asked to have the chips added (as originally ordered) we were told we had to place a new order (which we then did). No apology. No effort to fix it properly.
The bread and butter? We ordered three portions, which was clearly listed on the bill, but we were served one plate with four cold (straight from the fridge!) slices of bread and only two tiny butters. When we pointed this out, they took it away… and never brought it back.
The BBQ sauce we ordered never arrived.
We waited so long for drinks that we had already finished eating by the time we had to remind staff to bring them. Again, no apology.
The manager (blonde, with hair tied back and glasses) was the most disappointing part of all. She was visibly flustered, dismissive, and completely unapologetic. She blamed us for the food being cold and tried to claim we’d only ordered one bread and butter despite the receipt showing otherwise. Her excuse after pointing that out? That “it was all on one plate.” That doesn’t make it correct, it makes it careless.
We were eventually refunded, but the damage was done, not to our wallets, but to our trust.
This wasn’t just a bad night. This was a total failure of basic service, communication, accountability and a complete disregard for customers who’ve supported your...
Read moreI had the £14.99 steak. Looked good on the plate, but the steak was awful, to the point of inedible. Tasteless, bland, gristle. Its served on a sizzling plate and actually looked like it had been flame grilled at some point, However it was sitting on top of onions that had water still coming out of them. So it was poaching on the plate.
If this steak had any seasoning it was long washed off. It tasted lime it was boiled. I like onions but these were water and spoiled the steak.
Decent staff, other people seemed to be enjoying their meal. Id try it again but steer well clear of the steak. I had a £15 budget so couldn’t get two courses regardless of which main course or second course I got.
So I went for the £14.99 steak, I usually love s good steak. I brought a drink on a seperate bill. I usually get a meal, drink and starter for £15 on a Thursday lunch time. Ive used this chain in other locations and search them out on the app.
But this is based solely on the quality of the meal. Such a shame!
Other people in the restaurant clearly like the place, or at least the company of their friends I also like the pool table being free. Although no one was on it.
Bar staff seemed nice enough. Server never asked how the meal was. I left most (3/4) of the steak. Eat the chips and peas as I was hungry..
Just drop it off. Pick it up, onto the next. No communication. No how was your meal? Have you got everything, would you like a...
Read moreNot sure what’s gone on in this place. Plenty of staff walking in round , sometimes not doing much to be fair and I’ve worked in bars and pubs so I can tell you that your either over staffed or you have lazy staff. The one thing that is mind boggling about this place is queuing for service! What happened to going to the bar and just being served by 2 people stood behind the bar at a single pay point when there are several along the bar? It’s the most backwards way of serving I walked out yesterday as there was a line to get served, a line! There shouldn’t be a line in a pub, yes 3 deep at the bar when it’s busy I get it but a line in nonsense, no other pub operates in this fashion. Get your staff to be on the bar and serve people as they walk in or where they go to the bar and stop this queuing malarkey! Whoever the manager is needs to ask themselves a few questions if the queue was too the main entrance on Lancaster Road how many stay did you have on after 6pm and question what were they doing when people wanted serving, we left with 6 other people and to be honest I will not be returning if you have to queue up for a pint! I want to go to any part of the bar as is the norm and for the member or staff working to acknowledge me and serve me where I’m stood. You don’t get this service in any other pub, I don’t know why your...
