The Railway Inn - Oldbury
Having worked around the corner from this establishment for the last 12 months ive wanted to try this for a while. What can i say. It certainly didnt let us down.
Greeted by a lovely barmaid who soon sorted our order of drinks out and found us a table for the 6 of us. (It was quite busy so maybe next time we will book to make sure). The organisation of said barmaid stood out for me. The way she handled our food order was spot on. Even holding back for the last 2 people so she made sure all the food came out together.
Food arrived pretty much together. There was no having to wait for other diners food which is always a bonus.
Battered masala chips - Wow just wow. Now that is how you do masala chips. Hands down the best iv ever had. Lovely and crispy and spice kick. Making the decision to share these with another diner was spot on as there would of been no way id of completed a full portion to myself. 10/10
Masala sauce - these sauces can be hit or miss with this one certainly being a hit. This took me back to olde Indian eateries used to do their sauces before sadly closing. Lovely a creamy and just how a masala sauce should be. 9/10
Medium Mixed Grill - Finally a mixed grill packed with all kinds of meat not just full of chicken wings. The chicken tikka melted in your mouth and was jaw dropping with a dip of sauce. Sheesh kebabs to die for. I cant really comment on the fish pakora as im not a huge fan of fish so i wouldnt know what was good/bad. A very nice touch with the unlimited mint sauce it must be said 9.5/10
Garlic and cheese naan bread - Now if anyone has read my reviews before you will know this is the bread and butter of the meal. The pierre de resistance. However unfortunately this did fall a tad short. Plenty garlic but not much cheese. Which with everything else setting a high standard this was a tad disappointing. 7/10
Overall this is up there in the best Tikka Grills iv visited. I fully recommend a visit but id advise booking if theres a big party of you. I would certainly...
Read moreThis is a great spot for groups to catch-up over tasty food and especially those into their sports. Big screens everywhere for you to view specific sports matches - cricket on the day we went. Was busy as soon as we got there but our table was ready for us, as we had prebooked. Great mix of clientele (families, lads, sports enthusiasts, elderly, young etc) We went to the bar to make our order, paid and sat down. We had to wait nearly 45 minutes for our food to come out! Quite a long wait considering we didn't ask for anything special apart from mild pakora and everything else was standard off the menu. Hence the one less star on service. Though maybe a sign that the food was that much more freshly prepared? Or there was not enough kitchen staff? Either way that was our biggest peeve, once the food arrived, there were no issues, super tasty, well cooked, to the level of spice/heat ordered and pretty much polished off. Just a little doggy bag for 2 to take away for a small lunch. Lamb special was AMAZING - tasted like a home cooked meal! Chilli battered chips (wet) preferred over masala battered chips (dry) but that was just our opinion (they were still both nice!) 1 other mention.... Which we debated about at the time.... The butter chicken for me was quite sweet and more like a very red korma - on the flip side my brother loved it and it was how he liked/expected it (plus he was the one who ordered it). Also to mention they have a few varieties of cocktails/mocktails available too which I thought was a nice touch! I would recommend, and would come back to this place but maybe in a smaller group or at least later on in the day when there's probably more help in the kitchen so there's not so much of a wait on the food. Oh and one more thing the car park is very small and tight! Can get roughly 10 cars in the back which is where we squeezed in. Have seen other reviews of other areas available to park if needed. Thanks guys - we...
Read moreHad a takeaway from here during the lockdown it was great..food got ready quickly, it was delicious and portions were fine,too..... so after the lockdown was eased, decided to go again but this time for dine in. I don't even know where to start.... We entered...got a table which wasnt cleaned for sure... We requested a high chair for our baby...well...never in my life i seen dirtier highchair straps and highchair table than that.... On the website it states restaurant...so we assumed we would recieve a menu to choose from, at some point... i was wrong..we were sitting for like 15 min at this point.... i went to the bar...to ask menu...they were looking for menu all over the place..then after about 3min we finally got the menu... After this i didnt even expect them to come to the table and take the order...lol... Went to the bar...the blond lady at the bar took the order...extremely casual style...besides she was kind of shouting the whole time while we were dining.... i dont know at what kind of hospitality setting is it acceptable... Such thing as customer service...friendliness...politeness does Not exist in this ,, restaurant,,. Apparently there isnt enough staff in kitchen coz we were waiting for food at least half an hour...no apologies...nothing...just hoping that at some point we will actually recieve some food.... intrestingly , all take away foods got ready before our order....ok...whatever.... Went to the toilet....well, no surprise....of course they could even care to put toilet paper in there..... ridiculous... At time of leaving, out of the 4-5 front of house staff members none was able to say even a hi/bye/thank you..... or anything..... Gave 2 stars as rating...only positive thing i can mention about this place is food...it was good...especially tandoor items... Very likely that we wont be back....extremely disappointed...
