What a lovely visit we've had this morning at the Oak House Museum and it was Free to visit. I wasn't expecting that much but was very surprised with the Visitors Centre which houses the cafe and a small shop. The house itself is made up of about 10 or so rooms over 2 floors as the house would have been circa 1700. There is plenty of information on displays around the house and friendly members of staff who are very informative and knowledgeable about the house. There is a lovely play area for the children at the back of the house and the garden are very well maintained. Unfortunately there is no parking so will have to park in the street which wasn't a problem as there is a boxed parking area big enough for around 6 cars next to the Oak House on Oak Road. Local museums like this need our support so we can remember our history of the area. The grounds are lovely to go and grab a drink from the cafe and sit and relax for a while. You would have to check Sandwell Museums Website for opening times but as of today I think they are open Tuesdays and Wednesdays 11am to 4pm.

Gorgeous old medieval building, older than originally thought, when excavations were done for the visitors cafe. Probably dates back to the medieval period, and not the later Elizabethan age as previously thought. Well worth a visit, so atmospheric of a bygone age, please remember though, don't wear high heel shoes as they don't allow them because of the floors. You do not have to pay to go in so, if you like history then go there it's a must!

Historically preserved oak house. The oak house boasts some fine paneling and is furnished with 17th century furniture. On December 10th 2017 for two Saturdays you can visit. Santa's Grotto. There will be live music on the 17th December at 7pm. Great place for the whole family to learn about our historical past and how people lived in those days.

This is a lovely early 17th century partly timber-framed and partly brick house. It is stranded amid run-down Victorian terraces and on the day I visited (admittedly a wet November Tuesday) I was the only visitor and was heavily outnumbered by the volunteers. The lady who was my guide was absolutely brilliant; an absolute mine of information about the house and with a depth of historical knowledge which enabled her to put the place in geographical and historical context. The house is furnished with real taste and there are a lot of wonderful pieces which are contemporary with the house. My one complaint is that the written information in each room is aimed at children and it would be good to have something for grown-ups too.

The house deserves to be better known. To get there go to the tram stop at Lodge Road, about 15 minutes from New Street station, turn left out of the station then right at the end of Lodge Road and it is on the left. Do go if you are...

Oak House is a delightful Black Country treasure.

Having visited Bromwich Manor House last weekend, our expectations weren't high. I remember the Manor when it was a very exclusive restaurant. Now, it is a mere shell aching for the Oak House treatment.

Oak House has been beautifully and sympathetically renovated. The house feels worthy, and there is an army of volunteers lovingly tending to it.

We were given a very informative guided tour from a gentleman whose vast knowledge was put to good use.

The grounds are loved, and moms can enjoy a coffee while watching their children cimb over the sunken pirate ship or build sandcastles.

An excellent morning was had. Now, please, spend some money on the Manor house and breathe some life back into it....you know it...
