The Battlefield Rest is one of those culinary institutions in the Southside that you just have to cherish and hope that they will never disappear. Usually, I start a restaurant review with a few words about the food. But here, I will make an exception, as the building (an Edwardian former tram resting place) and it's uber-cozy interior are one of the main reasons I love coming back again and again. The restaurant is usually well-frequented (typically by locals and regulars) but never gets too noisy. It's this unpretentious, friendly and warm feeling this room radiates that make it so special. Now to the food: Again, if you are looking for honest, unpretentious Italian food (with a Scottish twist here and there), then you will be fully satisfied. I have never ordered the same thing twice. Not because I ever was unhappy with my food (quite the contrary!) but because the menu has so many mouth-watering options to offer. No matter what I ordered, I have always been very happy. The portion sizes are generous and the staff is super friendly.

Was recommended to this place by a friend who lives locally - we were astounded What a fantastic quirky place situated just 10 mins walk from our hotel via the park. We were advised to book and glad we did- excellent service from v friendly staff and what a menu. 2 courses at £22 or 3 for slightly more. I had the crab bisque which seemed to be served in an individual tureen- fantastic flavours served with crusty bread Then the crab linguine Wow 🤩 Fantastic portion which I only just managed to finish- definitely no room for pudding All 3 of us were full - the ladies unable to finish their main course The meal was accompanied by a v nice Chianti The whole evening was perfect and the staff in no hurry - or so it seemed - to get us to leave This was on a “ school night” but apparently did not affect the clientele as most tables were occupied from 6pm onwards We are definitely going to book again the next time we’re in Glasgow 👍 This is definitely a hidden gem for those visitors new to the area

A long time since i had been here and had forgotten how marvellous it is. The decor is stunning with a real comfy, welcoming old style trattoria feel.In this one time Glasgow tram hub dating back to Victorian times. Food is superb.I had a beautiful antipasti platter with cold cuts, salad, olives, peppers and onions. My friend had two large slices of garlic bread. My main Course was beef cheek pie with roast potatoes and veg in a beef jus. My friends Lasagne was also excellent. No room for desserts we finished off with two cappuccinos The bill was £40. Tony and his staff were amazing, friendly and helpful. An evening return visit is definitely on the cards.😊8/8/25. It's taken a while to return. Everything as marvellous as ever. Tonight, minestrone soup starter. Beef cheekwith pasta this time and my friend had Spaghetti Carbonara. Latte to follow, a real treat. Do try for yourself.

I've never left a review, even when a meal has been bad wouldn't do it to a business, but how I was treated when I was asked why I left my meal was non other than awful, I took my twin sister out for a meal after she had an appointment at the hospital just across the road, I'm not great on my feet so it was close, if I knew what I was in for I would have kept on walking, our starters came out my mussels where over cooked I still ate them, my sister however was the Pate it was like cat food, I'd never seen or smelt anything like it, I'm no cook myself but I knew just by looking at it, that it wasn't right, I told her not to eat it, we ordered a main, it got worse if that's possible, it was tinned pasta, the chicken was that over cooked you couldn't cut into, it was like a brick, so I left the whole plate, even though the meal was God awful I just asked for the bill and would have paid in full, the boss asked me what was wrong I did say the only thing it was fit for was the bin, he then turned round and accused me of lying then told me I wrong, stood over me, baring in mind I'm 4ft 11 with a crutch, trying to intimidate me didn't work, then another member of staff came over n said it's there popular dish, again as if I was lying I told them both to taste it's they both said no I don't blame them it looked like a car crash you didn't have to taste it, he did take the main of the bill no before he drew his eyes of me and my sister, made to feel very uncomfortable, he's lucky my mum brought me up the right way or I could have acted the same as he did, no customer services whatsoever, if your thinking of going I can't stress enough to rethink, unless you like tinned and frozen food and pay out the...

The Battlefield rest is a very well known restaurant in the area and is located at the heart of Battlefield. Both the inside of the place and the outside have a unique look so I've only always wanted to visit.

Taste I ordered the crab and prawn linguine and my companion ordered the smoked haddock open ravioli. I prefered their dish much more because the flavours were more intense and better balanced.

I felt the crab and prawn linguini was underseasoned and lacked the depth of flavour I'd expect from a pasta dish. I think the dish is a bit confused as there's ingredients like spinach that I don't think compliment the dish very well.

Looking at the menu more broadly, as someone who doesn't eat chicken or red meat there is some available options. However not many of the vegetarian ones appealed to me so I decided to try a seafood pasta as I thought it would be more flavoursome. Unfortunately, I should have probably chosen a more staple vegetarian option that is done well. The smoked haddock dish was really good though so I think it just depends on the dish.

Price The two pasta mains were around £13 which I'd say is the average for a main. We had a main each, garlic bread and a bottle of house wine at around £50 which is kind of average although slightly more expensive than other pasta places like Te Seba and Sugo.

Overall experience The service was excellent, the interior of the place is very beautiful and a bit old style but without being outdated. It's very cozy and with beautiful candles. The place was very busy around dinner time so I recommend booking in advance. I'm not sure I'd go again as there was nothing on the menu that made me want to come back but I definitely enjoyed the...

Have just returned home from here having had a fantastic meal in this beautiful building. The setting is stunning and pretty to look at and it's food is fantastically tasty.

I had Prawns and smoked salmon as my starter.....a pear, sour cream and asparagus. Wasn't sure about the pear, but omg, it comes with the salmon wrapped around it and the taste. ....wow.

My main was the venison steak with, (I think), chicken liver pate, red cabbage and crispy potatoes, all drizzled with a red currant jue.

It was amazing. The combination of the venison , pate and the jue was fantastic....likewise the marriage of the cabbage, potato and the pate delicious. If you are brave enough (I was) to have a go at putting them all into your watering mouth at one time...You will be rewarded with an amazing mouthful of heaven.

No joke.

I was in a party of approximately 25 people on a busy saturday night. The staff we helpful, curtious and friendly. The food orders were taken quickly and efficiently and the food arrived in a timely fashion.

I can't recommend this restaurant highly enough. Everything that I saw on our table of 12 looked and smelled amazing.

If I'm totally honest, I can't wait to go back.

The choice of dishes is outstanding and I think I could dine here for a fortnight and have a different combination for every meal.

Overall a wonderful meal and...
