Common Ground — Restaurant in Scotland

Decided to come over Battlefield way for a change of scenery. Met my friend with intention of late lunch 🥪and coffee☕. Place is quite small and because it was a dull day the interior was quite dark. Ordered and paid at the till. The menu writing is quite small and you don't get an idea of the menu until you reach that point... Could put a menu in the window so that you know slightly in advance of getting to the till. If you want takeaway then you order/pay at till then go outside to wait. Managed to get a table at the window but as there was a used disposable cup there I don't think it had been sanitised between customers but to be fair it was pretty busy on the day and the staff coped fairly well. There were tables outside but as the rain got a little heavier people came inside. The order of 1x sweet chilli chicken toastie, 1x cappuccino and 1x latte (large) and 2x homemade chocolate caramel shortcake came to £14.60 was fairly reasonable. When the order arrived the toastie was cut very irregularly but it was tasty enough and I could have eaten double the portion. The chocolate caramel shortcake was very thick but the biscuit base was not as hard as I imagined and was easy to eat as I thought it might prove hard to get through. The coffees were alright and I forgot my mantra of asking for it to be hot... as many places only do lukewarm, as this was. Will I return, possibly if I'm over in that direction. Went a couple of months ago... won't be back. Only ordered 2 coffees and a cake to share, took over 10 minutes to come to table. Staff were satisfactorily pleasant. Coffee insipid. Fruit flies everywhere, including in the toilet. Speaking of the toilet... barely any toilet roll, serious mould problems around the sink, and generally quite dirty. Not what I expect at approximately 10:30am.... I've always found toilet cleanliness (or lack thereof on this occasion) to be quite a reliable indicator of general cleanliness and hygiene. I won't be back, and strongly suggest anyone else who values a good strong quality cup of coffee, along with basic hygiene,...

Went for a take away ordered a ice latte a roll with sausage and egg and a cheese and ham toasted, waited about half an hour while watching loads of people pile in and order after me but receive their order before me I eventually get my order and I’m apologized to and given a cake as an apology (great nice whatever) I get home to open the bag and realise there is no roll with sausage and egg and that my toastie is completely unmelted and still cold, nice people that work there and I get there can be pressure when busy but I just spent £11...
