Beckett and sons — Restaurant in Scotland

The service and atmosphere were excellent. But food was mediocre at best unfortunately. The place has definitely the potential to be an outstanding cafe though. We had Avo on toast, Pancakes and Cheddar & pickle sandwich. All of the meals were without any idea, or twist. They were served very ordinarily. To be constructive:

1. Avo on toast could be sprinkled with olive oil, and topped with microgreens. The leaves and cherry tomatoes on side would benefit from an oil or seasoning too
2. the sandwich was made from very good ingredients, but I would consider toasting the outter sides of the bread a little bit to add it a bit of crunch, and put some leaves and tomatoes on the side too
3. pancakes were of great taste, but somewhat dry? Some vanilla mascarpone or clotted cream...

Really nice atmosphere, very good service but the food was just disappointing. First of all I don't understand why they serve everything with spinach (raw spinach as well) and covered in micro herbs, it's just odd. Anyway, I got eggs Benedict with bacon because they did not have ham. The bacon was like cardboard, impossible to cut and chew, I am sure it was pre cooked, hollandaise was quite watery, underseasoned and not creamy enough, the sourdough was generic supermarket sliced sourdough, not even bloomer. The eggs were nice. For the price I definitely expected better! Also they don't do...

I went in for a sit down breakfast with my family. Friendly and attentive staff, and a really nice vibe and decor. Child friendly. The only thing I'd suggest would be to give beans with the breakfast as standard. I'd happily then be given the option of haggis or black pudding instead. It's a pretty good deal getting haggis and black pudding as standard, but I'd certainly give one up for beans. 👍 Everything on the plate was top quality. The Ness black pudding is 1st class. I'll...
