We had booked this meal 3 months in advance as it was a 60th Birthday meal. We went when the weather and temperature outside was -8°c (which wasn’t the problem) on first impressions the restaurant looked quiet and empty on a Wednesday night but visually looked nice.
As we entered we were told that one of the ovens/fryers wasn’t working so couldn’t order specific items on the menu. Once we where seated we realised that inside was just as cold as it was outside we noticed a small electric heater on a table trying to heat the restaurant, and wasn’t told about the heating not working.
We ordered our meals and one of the party ordered a steak Medium/Well done and came back more Medium/Rare with blood pouring out which had to be returned to the kitchen, the chips were very greasy. We also ordered a side portion of Mac and Cheese and Cauliflower Cheese to find that the cheese sauce was very much like a powdered cheese sauce from a packet.
One of our female party members went to the toilet and they were absolutely freezing cold and felt colder than the outside temperature, which stopped other people from the party from using the toilets.
We had heard great reviews for the place and decided to try but overall for a 60th Birthday meal the experience was not very good.
A few days after our meal, we heard that the restaurant had closed due to heating issues and when we sent an email of complaint for our experience and was offered a free bottle of wine (£20 max) on our next visit. The bill came to well over £200 for the meal to be freezing and disappointed and we will not...
Read moreVisited on Wednesday evening for my birthday meal. Firstly , we had to stand waiting to be seated for a good five minutes as both servers were on the tills which is fine, but it would have been nice to be acknowledged - we don't mind waiting but to be completely ignored is rude. We had the goats cheese starter and the pate, followed by the chateaubriand. The steak was delicious, parmesan and garlic fries were devine and the onion rings probably the best I have had in quite a while. The bearnaise sauce was too strong, it definitely wasn't the best that I have had and I didn't think the blue cheese sauce was strong enough - both points are however personal preference. Inside was absolutely FREEZING and to be honest it would put me off going back again. I kept my jacket on throughout the meal and still had goosebumps. I'm not sure if the heating was off or just on too low but I was uncomfortable throughout the meal which took away from the enjoyment of my birthday dinner. My husband had told them it was by birthday in the hope of the offer of a special cocktail or cupcake or something along those lines ( which of course he would have paid for) but it wasn't even acknowledged, so why ask? However, all in all the food was lovely and if they sorted out the heating and the sauces, we may...
Read moreCannot fault the food itself, or the waitress, she was lovely and helpful.... However, when the bill arrived we were charged for sauces which we weren't innitally bothered about having but they were offered as though they come with the steaks anyways, so we ordered a sauce each with our steak (they also were the only section of the menu with no prices so definitely assumed they were complimentary with the steak) the waitress knew we weren't bothered about one but insisted we might as well get one each as they come in a separate little pot so we can decide whether or not to use them... So we did and it appeared on our bill as an extra £4 for the sauces! Also there was a raspberry daquari added onto our bill at £8.50 which we didn't order and had to ask to be removed. The waitress seemed to react really quickly by laughing and saying "sorry that bill is for the other table I had mixed them up" which we know was a lie as the table she pointed to had ordered totally different things to us. I think personally they were trying to pull a fast one. Which is a shame because it put me off going back once I saw those sneaky add ons, it's expensive...
