Chain Runner — Restaurant in Scotland

A decent pub and hotel though the hotel is extremely overpriced. I'm guessing they take a lot of corporate business bookings from Sky and other businesses nearby. The pub is open early til late, and I think there is still access 24/7 due to hotel guests. The food is decent though it doesn't vary much. The daily meal deal specials are good too. The team are beyond friendly and helpful, and have looked after me chilling there for several hours a few times. It's dog friendly but they mostly keep puppy friendly guests to one side of the pub and everyone else on the otherside. It's seems to be used to family gatherings, business/professionals, and tourists. Lots of parking, a Starbucks across the road, walking distanve - and a B&M and Dunelm nearby too. Sainsbury's and other shops are across the road also, and a petrol station (self serve). The hotel is now usually/always booked up and if there are rooms available they are expensive - it's an upgraded premier inn, clean and comfy, bright and airy. They are quite spacious too. I would be very happy for my husband to stay there for work again but it's now out of our budget, and I would be comfortable to travel up with him and stay again one day too....

The breakfast was excellent however on our first night stay we decided to have an evening meal which was not such a good experience. We ordered a mixed grill and a plant burger as well as starters. The starters arrived and were good pub food standard. However during eating them a member of staff informed us mixed grill was not available so my partner reordered then five minutes later we were told the plant burger on the menu was not available but a soya based alternative was. So I ordered that. The staff were apologetic and professional. The main courses arrived and my partners was good but I could only eat half the burger given as it was truly awful, dry and over cooked and the fries were pale and not pleasant. We were given a discount on the bill which was not asked for but was somewhat appeasing. We chose not to eat on our second night stay as I was unwell during the night and next morning and I can only think it was that burgers doing. Such a shame the chef obviously has little pride in the food or informing restaurant staff of the availability of food on an ongoing basis to avoid...

I booked online for Morhers' day, and when I actually went in to request to add on another family member to our booking, the guy I spoke to said they didn't have my booking and that would be a definite 'no' to add anyone.

When I showed him my confirmation text and email of my booking, he proceeded to say they didn't have my booking and it hadn't been authorised by them so my £30 deposit would not have been taken from my bank. I then had to show him my bank account to prove the deposit had, of course, come off.

He then said, ok thats me fitted you all in.

This was too confusing and unprofessional, and the guy that I was dealing with appeared extremely stressed and dismissive in my request and claimed to have sorted a problem that wasn't even there in the first instance. I left not feeling confident that my booking for Mothers day was secured and just had to hope for the best on the day for my Mum and her family.
