Terrible takeaway fish and chips If you have guilt to work through, or if you are into BDSM, or if you have survivors guilt, first world guilt, or any other need to experience pain or injustice, this is the place for you. After seeing the long queue at the Pittenweem chip shop, I decided to try and find somewhere else for a takeaway fish and chips. At the harbour, I came across the Larachmhor Tavern. A harassed and harried lady behind the bar took my order and said that there would be a 20 minute wait for the food. When the food eventually came, it was time for a rare experience. Numerous bones meant that the fork was more or less useless, as I was using my fingers to pick bones out of the uneaten fish and out of the fish in my mouth. I wish I had counted the chips. Maybe two dozen or so, and then some of them were inedible as they were burnt. The fish batter tasted of frying oil. The fish was fresh and hot, but too many bones. I tried to show some of the bones in the picture. The same picture shows the fish which I couldn't eat as I couldn't remove the bones. So, a measley portion and then I had to throw some of it away. And all this for £9. Disappointed and feeling ripped off. Pros Hot fresh fish Napkin Plastic fork Free sauce sachets Cons Over priced Stingy portion Far too few chips Burned / overcooked chips Strong taste of cooking oil from the batter Lots of bones in the fish

Had the crab salad and a taste of my dad's Cullen skink. The soup was creamy, and nice from what I tasted. No pale ales. (Maybe I'm too much of a londoner these days though, maybe they are less popular here!) Crab was nice. And some places would make a crab salad by mixing in mayo or something which i think ruins it so glad they didnt do that, it was good. The salad part was alright. I chose oatcakes rather than bread and they were properly nice East Neuk ones 🥰 Accommodating for my dog and brought her water though I would have preferred if they had asked me before giving her a treat especially as it was quite large and she is a small dog. Thankfully, mine is an exception as many dachshunds (and other dogs) have delicate stomachs and she was fine. Another dog that was there had its own bed and I think this is a good idea as the floor seemed a bit cold and hard for them to lie on otherwise. If I ever came back, I would maybe bring her a blanket or something to lie on :)

Lovely wee pub/restaurant/take away. On a day trip up to the East Nuek, we arrived at Pittenweem Harbour and thought we would try Chip Ahoy. We had been there years ago and it was good back then. Although busy, we were able to get a table. We ordered the chowder followed by fish and chips. The chowder tasted fantastic big chunks of fish, totties etc no complaints. The fish and chips again were great, big portions proper chips and the batter on the fish really crisp and not greasy. The lattes we ordered tasted nice and were hot. The decor was of paintings of the buildings harbours and boats in the local area which made it a really nice setting. The servers were polite, prompt and well presented. The toilets were clean and tidy. This is a great place to come and have a bite to eat in winter and summer. Plenty of free parking, with a carpark up the street at the West end of the Harbour.

I don't like giving negative reviews, but this was disappointing. We visited The Larachmohr during the arts festival in Pittenweem with our toddler.

The staff were very accommodating and helped us get settled at a table with a high chair before taking our order for drinks and a sandwich for our toddler (who we try to feed quickly to avoid trying the patience of other people in restaurants). We subsequently ordered some food for ourselves and, soon after, our toddler's toasted arrived.

It took nearly an hour for our other orders to be delivered and the staff only provided vague or inaccurate updates ("you guys are next" - we weren't) and forgot to give us the cutlery they said they would bring to the table after we ordered.

When the food arrived it was excellent. The fish was fresh and tasty and was clearly prepared and presented with care. It was delicious.

We had a few apologies for the delay where different things were blamed ("it's busy, we had to do an order for a coach party" - it was busy and that's no problem, just keep us updated; we had said we "weren't in a rush" - we hadn't; it was "first come, first serve" - others ordered after us and ate before us), but in general they didn't really seem that concerned. Frustrating for us, given that we didn't want our increasingly bored and noisy toddler to disrupt other people's meals.

Additionally, at a couple of points during the meal my wife was asked to open a cupboard beside where she was sitting and flick a switch on a fusebox because something in the kitchen kept tripping the power. Pretty disconcerting.

Finally, at the end of the meal I asked a member of staff if they had any baby change facilities and was told "I'm not sure" with a shrug. An odd answer in a small pub. I couldn't see any, so we left and had to change our toddler elsewhere.

This is a small pub. There can't have been many more than 20 tables and a bar and there seemed to be a reasonable number of staff, including a manager/owner... but they seemed poorly organised and unprepared for how busy it was.

Maybe we just caught the Larachmore on a bad day, as it had the potential (and food) to...

My Wife, Son & I enjoyed an excellent Fish & Chips / Mushy peas, Prawn Cocktail ( most beautiful & biggest prawns i've ever seen!) & last not least a very tasty Chicken Burger for my son. ( we eat in the restaurant inside ). Wonderful pictures of local scenes on the walls, fantastic very hard working Owners & Staff, who couldn't do enough for you!. Fish & Prawns were as fresh as it gets.

Huge selection of Beers / Gin / Whiskey / Cocktails on Tap at the bar!. At the Bar with your drink, The owner kindly offered us Complimentary Popadoms & Alan's utterly delicious home made Onion & mint chutney, superb! a very welcome pre supper touch.

A really unique place, because you can have a takeaway, a few steps into the building, a cool wee Bar for a pre meal drink & sit in the restaurant if you prefer. What more do you want. Great Banter with the Owners & Staff.

These are very very hard working folk, who are providing an outstanding service / food & drink, second to none. Lovely down to earth, genuine Hospitality people. I've been to many places in the world, the good people of this Tavern & Restaurant are among the very Best!. Keep up the wonderful Work Folks, cant wait to come back soon & we will be!, booking another 3 nights in Pittenweem soon.

Please Ignore any less positive reviews, sadly there is no pleasing...
