Review edited... read to the end... May 2024 We popped in five minutes before closing just to buy some chocolates, we didn't have time to go into the cafe. We quite often buy loose chocolates from chocolate shops and look out for them when we are out and about, visiting places throughout the UK. My wife said; "I think they are the best chocolates I have ever had". I tend to agree, they are very good. They are slightly more expensive than we usually find but the quality is worth the price. 20th April 2025 we were on holiday again and decided to revisit the premises and we're really sorry we did as the experience was poor to say the least. We popped in to buy some chocolates again. There were two members of staff dealing with a customer. Meanwhile we looked at the chocolates and waited to be welcomed. The customer left but the two members of staff didn't feel our presence deserved any attention. In fact the 2 members of staff quickly became 3 and still we didn't receive any attention. We stood there while a "senior" member of staff... Possibly the owner... Started questioning the third member of staff and basically telling them off in front of us... How rude and completely unprofessional. The poor lad must have been very embarrassed as we stood there waiting... We got tired of waiting as even after 2 minutes none of the three members of staff felt we needed any attention even though we were clearly waiting for service standing 5 feet from them all. We left and won't be going back. The chocolates are good but the staff are terribly rude. My wife had been looking forward to returning since last year and was very upset by the sheer ignorance...
Read moreI had high hopes for The Cocoa Tree Shop, and while the food and drinks were enjoyable, our experience was completely overshadowed by the behaviour of one particular staff member—the “angry little old woman,” as others have also described her.
We ordered a mix of regular and white hot chocolates, chocolate cake, and waffles. The hot chocolates were absolutely delightful, and I’d highly recommend them. The cake was thoroughly enjoyed, and the waffles were tasty, though disappointingly colder than expected.
Unfortunately, from the moment we walked in, we were met with disapproving looks and snooty comments. The rudeness continued throughout our visit, from patronising remarks about our small dog (despite another table interacting kindly with her) to outright shoving us and other guests rather than simply asking for space to move a pushchair. Based on other reviews, this seems to be a pattern of behaviour, which is unacceptable in a hospitality setting.
I do want to highlight that the younger staff were absolutely wonderful, and I don’t want this one-star review to reflect poorly on them. However, the attitude of this one individual made our visit deeply unpleasant, and I wouldn’t return or recommend the...
Read moreThe ambience and je ne sais quoi of the film "Chocolat" comes to life in this little cafe.
Little eccentricities like an outdoor loo that's all mod cons, the beautiful mosaic angel and touches of nature from assorted potted plants add an inexplicable sense of wonder to this hideaway on the coast.
We had hazelnut milk hot chocolate, dark chilli hot chocolate and one of the Alice's Raspberry cordials. They need to be tried to be understood. The hot chocolates were exactly what you would hope. Not over diluted with milk but not so thick as to feel like you can't finish it. There's chocolate and there's this stuff.
I've eaten at Coco Black and had their hot chocolate. Their chocolates and desserts too. In my humble opinion this was better chocolate. It's also not as expensive and it's far more peaceful here. Definitely worth a trip for most chocolate afficionados. If this place starts competing for good food awards and the like I wouldn't be surprised if they start winning and the prices rise as demand increases....
