Went here yesterday as our first post covid pint. Food was lovely, however whatever website is being used for ordering seemed to be causing confusion for a lot of people. It took over half an hour for a pizza and a drink to arrive - disappointing considering you only have a two hour slot.
The woman who greeted us, a woman in a yellow jacket, was horrid. She was rude, arrogant and borderline aggressive for no reason. It's a shame, because the rest of the staff were lovely but this one member has genuinely out a dampner on our experience, and is unfortunately the one thing we keep on reflecting on when talking about our day. When there was a mix up with our order she stormed over to us stating "you're wrong, I've seen the check and you did it wrong". FYI, it turned out we were right
There were no signs at the front to direct customers to the back / beergarden and we met other customers who were out the front who were also confused, we managed to get round together but we actually thought the pub was just shut! The member of staff in the yellow jacket greeted us with "well obviously you're late now" and when we tried to light-heartely make a joke about not being able to find the beer garden she straight up ignored us.
Would absolutely give more stars if the woman in the yellow jacket hadn't made us feel unwelcome and unwanted, totally put down...
Read moreWoeful pub. Seeing photos of what was a much nicer place before the refurb is heartbreaking. The place has been absolutely butchered. It still says "best microbrewery" on the outside, yet they make no beer. I have been here twice now and the only thing they get right is getting every small detail wrong. Had a 'Chilly Connelly' burger which was underseasoned chilli on top of a burger that had salt in the mince and therefore made it tight and tough like a sausage. Absolute basic stuff. Nachos are deconstructed into big discs of tortilla served with cheap liquid 'cheese' and small pots of guac sour cream and a kind of salsa. Just bizarre.
The decor is all over the place, gingham plastic table covers, tacky fairy lights, chipped lacquer tables, chipboard walls (???), purple ceiling skirting lights. Did someone take over the place? It looked so nice before.
Even a quick glance at the cocktail menu shows that they put orange juice in a french martini! A three ingredient cocktail made incorrectly! Lines on some of the beers were bad, incorrect signage in a few places, I honestly have more examples of how everything somehow manages to be poorly done but i'll leave it there.
Either pull your finger out and sort it out or hire new management. Won't be back, what an...
Read moreBeen a regular on and off for almost 30 years through different versions of this space - the Rocking Horse, Boon’s Yard , the Outhouse. The refurb to the orignal Clockwork was quite radical from what it had been before and levelled up the place and brought in the crowd. . A testament to quality craftsmanship and interior design. Solid wood, sweeping staircase, upstairs space, lots of quirky features - raised areas, booths, dining area. I was gutted to see it in its current form. Why did they get rid of that beautiful staircase to the upper level ? Why get rid of the gorgeous L-shaped bar just to make a new, less attractive bar on the other side of the space ? Why spend large amounts of money destroying such interesting, unusual and quality features for the sake of creating just another large, bland function hall ? It really puzzles me. The whole place has been made mediocre and flat and the entire original interior has been destroyed when it should have been preserved and cherished for years to come. It looks like it’s no longer a microbrewery either. A depressing visit....
