Went on a Friday night, got in at about 7pm and it was fairly quiet with perhaps 3 other tables being served. Ordered the food but took nearly an hour for it to come through, we asked multiple times how long it'll be and was about to leave when the food appeared. Kept being told that it was taking longer because it was a big burger to make and the pizza was made fresh.
The food was quite frankly awful. Ordered the signature pizza and burger along with the nation nachos (tattie scone and haggis).
The pizza had no taste, it was pretty much just a store bought margarita pizza with a few bits of haggis, onion and peppers thrown on top. The two eggs were overcooked with no flavour. The dough and cheese was chewy, basically imagine eating a cold or poorly reheated pizza from a supermarket. Also the toppings were stupidly laid out, menu doesn't mention that they'd try and style it like a cows face which meant each slice had one type of topping or none.
The burger was school canteen quality. The onion rings were lukewarm, half the chips were warm and other half were already getting cold. The burger was bland and tasteless (aside from the fried egg). The chicken had no seasoning or sauce on it, was literally just a plain cooked chicken slice. The burger patty were much of the same, plain meat with no taste and honestly looked kind of undercooked as was still slightly pink in the middle.
The nachos were just greasy tatty scones with lukewarm haggis thrown on top. You can see from the leftovers picture that 3/4 of the plate was dips, we got volume wise more dip than nachos. Had one nacho each and then left them.
I've included pictures the burger and pizza when it came out and what we ended up leaving behind.
You may ask why didn't we say something at the time, well we pretty much just got ignored in the corner, when asked multiple times for sauces they never came back. Trying to get the attention of the staff was difficult.
Waitress came over and basically assumed we had ate so much we were full (with nearly full plate), we just simply said we did not like the food at all and would not be taking it home and wanted to settle the bill.
They came over with bill and card machine set for full bill and just paid it and got out (my mistake). Went to the Tesco down the road to get a better quality pizza and on way back to the car went in to put in a complaint. Was told that we'd need to go in the next day as no manager on shift (on a Friday night?). They then said that the chef has had a bad day as was given some bad news and that the they do food orders first come first serve but the place was empty, with perhaps 2 to 3 other groups of customers (one of which was just drinks).
Went back in the next day to log a complaint and was told that we had ate loads of the food (I ate the bun, half a chicken steak and the fried egg, barely the entire lot). Got a partial refund back but would not recommend this place to go other than perhaps a pint or two before an...
ย ย ย Read moreWe tried out Tartan Coo in Mount Florida, Glasgow for the first time.
A lovely welcoming and friendly atmosphere inside and from our hosts. It was reminiscent of a country side inn. The hosts were very attentive and accommodating and not intrusive.
Is it a bar? it it a restaurant? Who cares, I enjoyed the table service.
The food was absolutely lovely and filling. We had carbonara which at first glance I thought wasn't going to fill me but it's those decieving bowls that just keep going. Our friends got lasagne and veg lasagne which were packed and tasty. Haggis pakora starter was ordered but we requested to come as an accompaniment. Tasty!
Finished off the meal with a gorgeous chocolate fudge cake.
Quality food, great quantity, very tasty.
After the meal, we just decided to stay and have drinks till closing.
Excellent music choices throughout the night.
Definitely going back, need to try the...
ย ย ย Read moreVisited The Tartan Coo today for Sunday lunch with two friends. Firstly we got a warm welcome from the lovely Corrinne. Nothing was too much bother. Both Corrinne and Tony cannot do enough for you. The food was outstanding. One of our party had the lentil soup, which she said , was divine!!!. We all had the Sunday roast, which was presented beautifully. One of us had roast beef, myself and other friend had the roast beef AND the roast of the day which was ham. Delicious, also all the trimmings ( the parsnips were the best ever ). After a 20 minute break to let us digest the mains two of us had apple crumble ( not on the Sunday lunch menu but they accommodated us with no extra cost ). It was too die for. One with custard one with ice-cream. Just like my mammy used to make. Overall a very enjoyable afternoon.
We will certainly be back... Tartan Coo...
