Whenever we stay in a new city, it’s always a joy to discover a restaurant that not only impresses us with excellent food and welcoming service, but makes us want to come back for more. Such was the case with Coast. Recommended by several people, including our B&B hosts, we weren’t sure it would live up to all the hype but it did — and more. We made a reservation (highly recommended) as Oban was still enjoying a healthy peak season and many restaurants were still jam-packed. (And since we enjoyed our first visit so much, we immediately made a reservation for another night during our stay.) Service was professional and friendly, the decor warm and inviting, the ambience elegant yet relaxed. Although you could easily dress up for the occasion, they understand that many tourists who visit don’t cart around their Sunday best so casual is perfectly acceptable. Day 1: We decided to order from the Lite Bite (Prix Fixe) Menu which gave us a choice of starter, main and dessert. My wife had a massive starter of Local Mussels in White Wine with Cream while I had a Salmon Fishcake with Mixed Greens and Aioli. Both were delicious. In fact, I’m always in search of a good fishcake but always find them lacking. This one was crisp on the outside with satisfying chunks of salmon throughout. Fantastic. For our mains, we both had the Salmon Fillet with New Potatoes, Seasonal Vegetables and a Citrus Dressing. Perfectly cooked and well-seasoned. And while the preparation of the side veg doesn’t necessarily make or break a dish, it can certainly mean the difference between a great plate of food and one that’s merely mediocre. This one was great! Dessert was a light yet satisfying Warm Citrus Cake with Creme Fraiche. Sublime. Day 2 we went ‘a la carte’, skipping the starter and going straight for the main — Rump of Argyll Lamb with Minted Potatoes, Peas, Roasted Aubergine, Baby Vegetables and a Red Wine Jus. Perfectly cooked, delicately seasoned and mouthwateringly good. Followed by a must-have: Sticky Toffee Pudding with Butterscotch Sauce and Vanilla Ice Cream. Decadent in the best of ways. And as good as the food was, it wouldn’t mean anything without the excellent service. Much thanks to all the staff with special mention to Nicola and Nicole (our main servers) who made our experience more than memorable. Don’t miss out — make a...

We arrived at Oban in the evening and asked for the restaurant recommendation from out host at Sutherland Guest House and he pointed us to this place for classy feel and best mussels in town! Since I am vegetarian and my hubby wanted to try mussels from Isle of Mull, we decided to check this place out and we were not disappointed a bit! AMBIANCE: The ambiance is very upscale and this place is always full . We had to wait for 20 mins to get the table. So if you are planning on going, please make the reservation beforehand. They play for soft music and the decor is very soothing as well.
SERVICE: The servers are very friendly and always eager to help. They are pretty quick in responding but do not hover over the table to overwhelm you. We asked for recommendation for bottle of red wine and her recommendation didn't disappoint and paired nicely with our dinner.
Food: Below is what we ordered: -Mussels: they get fresh mussels from Isle of mull so we ordered them to fulfill my husbands bucket list. The mussels came in a creamy sauce and were fresh and delicious Salmon Fillet; which was backed perfectly and had nice flavors to it -Roasted Herb Gnocchi with Goat's Cheese: I loved the Gnocchi especially the flavors that were imparted by the sauce and shiitake mushrooms -We ordered Chocolate tart for dessert which came with pistachio topping and boy it was mouthwatering!
We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals at the Coast and highly recommend checking...
