We have been here on a number of occasions but the last was the worst ever. We came in as a one off treat during the day in the afternoon. We ordered the two dinner deal at £12.99 plus a steak pie. I had the fish and chips which to be fair, wasn't great. The batter was too crispy and the fish was cold. They didn't have and peas left, so I was given baked beans (not great with that dinner). My wife got steak pie with mash. When it arrived, she said it was dry as anything and of course, not hot. The barmaid asked if she wanted extra gravy but my wife declined incase she got charged extra. She also said her veg was cold and hard. Our daughter got macaroni, which also wasn't great. In all, a disappointing visit. It's been like this most times we have visited. Unfortunately, that will be our last. Edit Having exchanged emails with Kerry, the manager, she very kindly invited the three of us back for a free dinner. Which was anything we wanted from the menu. Any main and soft drinks. This visit was much better than the last. Couldn't fault a thing. The food was hot and really good. It was such a lovely gesture to do this and made our week. We would definitely recommend to friends and family and hope to be back again soon. Service was great and the staff are so nice too and welcoming. Thank you...
Read moreThis was already a favourite place before lockdown and our first visit since reopening was everything we hoped for. We just looked in while passing, unsure if we should book a table, but the welcome was outstanding so we were just pulled in.
The standard of covid safeguarding is the best I've experienced. Tables are well spaced, screens between tables, staff hard working and attentive (no need to go wandering around looking for help). There's an air of optimism and cheerfulness among the team that just lifted our spirits and created a lovely buzz around our evening.
Food and drink - I was pleasantly surprised to see that the prices haven't been inflated to recoup losses, and the food was delicious as always, served at a nice pace. Drinks are reasonably priced and the lower priced wines (red and white) were lovely.
Thanks to all the team for a lovely evening. See you...
Read moreWe were up in Scotland for a couple of nights on business and visited the Counting House on both nights for our evening meals. The staff on both evenings couldn't faulted both friendly and quick to serve us.
The selection of food is typical of pubs these days, which I don't mean to be in any way negative. Whilst the food that I chose was absolutely on target, so compliments to the chef on those nights.
The pub had a warm and friendly atmosphere, supplied by staff and regulars alike. I don't think that's too difficult to find, as personally, I've never felt unwelcome or uneasy in Scotland. The pool table was free to use, so if you like a game or two, you can't go wrong visiting here. The pub as a whole seemed to be in good repair, although I did manage to find that one seat with a bit of tear in it. With a beer garden to the rear, I bet it's a great place to visit...
