DEFINITELY THE LAST VISIT TO CUT
I have visited CUT a lot of times over the years. It has provided a solution to the lack of quality steak restaurants in the area. It strives to be trendy and my sons are impressed with it, they are probably the demographic they seek.
My recent visit on early Saturday evening will definitely be my last.
We had a £50 gift voucher provided to us as a gift from our son, so went along to use the voucher with best thoughts of a good meal ahead.
We were shown into the side-room at the restaurant which was absolutely freezing, so we had to keep our coats on during the meal.
We ordered sparkling water, and were brought a bottle of STILL water, so had to ask the waitress to correct this mistake.
We asked for a glass of ice, and had to ask 2 more times before we received this.
To the food……
We ordered one starter of Scallops and one starter of Coconut Prawns.
They arrived served by a young male who shouted the delivery with a rendition of “HEY GUYS”, and continued in this vein which, while enthusiastic was a bit patronising and blasé we were his customers, not his mates.
The Scallops starter was OK, but the Coconut King Prawns starter was obviously frozen scampi covered in a sprinkling of desiccated coconut, albeit well presented.
When the main course came out the dinner plates and the serving plates were so large that they didn’t fit on to the table, so were worried that we would end up with a plate of food in our laps.
For the main course we ordered a Chateaubriand (medium) accompanied by Skinny Fries for one and Home Fries for one, with sides of Chipotle Slaw and chargrilled corn.
The Chateaubriand seemed to be coated in a salty crust and was cooked as medium rare (which was good for me), but my wife struggled to eat it as she prefers it more cooked. Over all the meat was acceptable, but not great.
But all the side dishes were all terrible. The Skinny fries were obviously frozen seasoned fries (like you get from ASDA around Christmas), and were so salty they were inedible. The Home fries were in fact small roast potatoes and were not fries at all. The chargrilled corn was sour. It was obviously it was over ripe (almost being off) before being cooked. The Chipotle slaw was also very sour as it had obviously been made up a long while in advance and had soured over time, and it did not taste of chipotle at all and tasted much more like Sauerkraut.
We complained to the waitress about all the side dishes who apologised and we then asked for the bill.
The waitress brought the bill and said she had deducted the costs of the side dishes as we didn’t like any of them.
BUT……she had not deducted the £50 for the gift voucher, so we had to get this corrected before paying. (Based on her reaction, I got the impression that she knew about the voucher beforehand, but it still wasn’t deducted).
So basically…without the voucher and deduction for the terrible side dishes an early evening meal for 2 people was going to cost in the region for £200 for bad service, very bad food, and sitting in a freezing cold dining room. The night previous to this we had a wonderful meal out in our local Indian restaurant with great food, great service and all for £60.
CUT really behaves like a high class restaurant, no doubt in part due to geography in Bothwell, and charges and behaves accordingly. It is far from that, with only the prices being high, not matched by high quality food or service. The serving staff are very young and whilst seem nice young people but clearly not trained and completely out of their depth. The place would benefit from proper management and front of house staff .
As I said…..this was the last visit I will make to CUT.
I doubt they won’t be too bothered as they don’t bother that much place seems popular, though probably not with people who recognise a proper restaurant with fresh food and...
Read moreDisappointing I have been to Cut many times over the last two years and have been impressed with the food and the service. This time was totally different....almost like there is a new manager in place and they don't care about the quality of experience they are now providing.
I ordered chicken and waffles (something I have had before) and was very much looking forward to it. When my plate arrived, I noticed that there was something different about the waffle. When I queried this with the waiter, he said....we don't do Belgian waffles with the chicken any longer. We do potato waffles! I asked why that was not mentioned in the menu or discussed when I was ordering as that is quite a change to the dish. The waiter just shrugged his shoulders. I said I'm sorry I can't eat this as I am not allowed to eat potatoes (I have excess potassium in my blood) He simply removed my plate without saying anything and took it away. He came back with another plate a few minutes later - minus the waffles - and said Here's your dinner. At no point was there an apology or a hint of concern that they may have made a mistake. I ate most of the dish, but it just wasn't really what I wanted....as a crucial element was missing. If I had been given the choice, I would have liked to order something else, but that was not offered. When the bill arrived, I was charged full price for the meal. I said to the waiter that I wasn't happy to pay full price for my dinner when some of it was missing and he took the bill away then returned with a new bill ....minus my dinner. While this was a bonus, it was not what I wanted. I simply wanted someone to acknowledge the situation and show that they care! At no time did anyone senior come near our table.....they sent young waiter and waitress to deal with me. I have been left feeling very disappointed and disillusioned about the whole visit. I often judge places on how well they deal with disappointed customers but sadly Cut simply don't care. I was treated as a nuisance....and made to feel it was my fault as I had not mentioned my medical issue when ordering, however I feel it is incumbent upon any decent establishment to mention changes to menus...either on the actual menu or by the waiting staff advising there have been changes. Poor show Cut. I think we may be heading further along the road in future to San Vicenzos in Bothwell where there is excellent food and equally...
Read moreAvoid for takeaway. The girl on the phone didnt seem to be listening, my partner arrived and waited 25 mins over the slot they gave us. And on getting the food home we discovered our starter swimming in oil. Like a pool of it! Also had no flavour. They gave us chilli fries not brisket fries, they didnt put the extras on the burger, added salad when asked for none, missing salt & chili fries, mac and cheese cold and very floury. Bear in mind they had my parther waiting an extra 25 mins at the car park and still didnt get this right. When i called i was polite but i was understandably irritated. No raised voices, certainly no swearing or agression from me but was spoken to with such disrespect by Ross, I believe who basically berated my tone. An upset tone is not an issue i'd say I was really fair being that id paid £50 for an order where only one item was right. Really vey dissapointed as not one we're so sorry about this, was given. And to be told off into the bargin was not ok. A sorry would have went a million miles to getting this sorted and that wasnt given i also had to request it be re done.wasmade to feel this in its self was an inconvenience so took the order back and gotagain no apology...
