Have to admit, when you hear of a quintessential west end location receiving a much anticipated refurb, you canât help but be curious as to the potential for improvement this will bring. Whilst the fairy lights and plants are nice guys, there are some fundamental errors in both your organisational approach and attitude.
Walked in and sat down, (as per the old model) at a table that needed cleaned. 15 minutes pass when numerous staff walk back and forth serving everyone from the corporate fat cat and his eggs Benedict to the field mouse in the corner nibbling on scraps, but me.
Eventually I was pseudo-served and made aware that there is a new queue system to cater for the supposed massive surge in demand. This resulted in us joining a (since arrival) newly formed queue to witness not only myself but the entire composition of the queue be rejected a table on grounds that they were âbooked until 1pmâ.
Listen, Iâm not in the habit of writing bad reviews, but if you are going to market a location on the pretence that there is increased value from investment, whether that be food (wouldnât know) or service.... ensure both the employees and organisational model are sufficient.
See you at the next refurb....
P.s you left your tip from the previous customer on the large window table - at least you understand the relationship between...
Read moreVisited here on Tuesday 11th May. In the area and fancied a sit-down and a coffee. The place was half empty and we opted for the 'time-out vaunted' outside area down the East side of this establishment. This area had plenty empty tables and a few scattered patrons. Despite being 'masked-up' we were ambushed by a haughty table-wiper who told us to report to reception. This we did. At reception we requested we sit in the aforementioned outside area. Despite it being three-quarters empty and no 'reservation' signs we were told it was not possible as those tables were all reserved ( at 3.30pm). We were informed we were 'walk-up's' and could sit on the pavement, which we didn't like the look of. Needless to say we took our money elsewhere; 200yds along the road where we were received properly. Incredible that after a pandemic shut-down that an establishment like this would take such attitude to potential patronage. However, it chimes with my previous experience of 'up there own bottom' West End establishments in Glasgow. If you are visting this great City avoid these high-handed, over-priced clichès and head for the East End where you will be warmly welcomed by Coias and Celinòs; long established Italian eateries which know how to...
Read moreI've given Epicures hugely favourable reviews previously, but I'm afraid on their Sunday Roasts I'm genuinely shocked.
A father's day treat gone wrong - this mess of a roast had almost nothing going for it. Apart from its massive price tag (with a ÂŁ15 pp upgrade fee to beef) and low level of choice (Lamb or pay more for Wagyu) - the food itself was poor.
The roasties weren't roasted. Instead they were (3, count them, 3) par boiled par fried new potato's. Worse, they were ludicrously over salted, over powering any other taste in the palette. School boy mistake. So poor. Awful and stingy veg. A few leaves, one strip of carrot, and otherwise tasteless garden peas. Garden peas?? In a 50 quid roast? Tiny hard Yorkshire. Speaks for itself, was like chewing through crunchy cereal. Thank God there wasn't much of it. Small beef portion. The one saving grace of this disaster and it was the smallest portion I've ever had with a roast. I've paid 15 more for it guys, are you kidding?
The starter, the wine and the service are the only things saving this from a one star. Epicures needs to rethink this entirely. The Sunday chef ought to be ashamed. For Cail Bruich sister restaurant,...
