A brief stop in the antiquated but charming county town of Cupar, in Fife, which retains many a shop that an old cynic like myself might deem the impossible survivors of the inevitable demise threatening every high street in Britain. Hope holds hard in The Kingdom of Fife, it seems. We must all try to buy locally. And within this creed, my wife and I chose Fisher and Donaldson's bakery for our light lunchtime refreshments. The girls behind the shop counter see to the sit-down sect in varying degrees of good manners and looks. First we got the most pleasant one and a2qfter that the angryish one, as behind them stood the young and noticeable smiler, obviously in all-round charge. But, by god, they produced a great Pea & Ham Soup, a worthwhile Sausage Roll and Coffee with a Strawberry Tart which my good lady found irresistable. Very homely shop, very good...

I could have stayed indoors with the wife and got the same treatment instead of paying for the privilege of it... Coffee was nice though... UPDATE : I've just read the previous review left left by a gentleman who mentioned as soon as they realised he wasn't local, the attitude changed.. And I 100% agree with that.. Maybe it was my English accent that made the said woman in question act like that, yet the next table that spoke in a Scottish accent, she was nice as pie to them,With pleases and thank yous given.. The staff really need training in customer service, as soon as it was apparent I wasn't local the staff went ice cold and only spoke to ask for the amount on the till even then there was no warmth not even the common curtesy of a please or thank you, even when i asked one of them a direct question i was answered with a shake of the head now I may not be local but I am a regular visitor to the area and have shoped at fisher and Donaldson for over 30 yrs and this is by far the worst experience I've had in one of these shops from now on I will be sticking to the St Andrews branch. The staff want to remember that tourists will visit the store especially given the major tourist attractions just out...
