Set back from the street up a small passage, this place is an absolute treasure! From the moment we walked in the door we felt welcomed and special. The food was fantastic. I had a vegetarian lasagne which was bursting with flavour, and my wife enjoyed the crab bisque and a salad. She is a bit of a seafood connoisseur and she was enraptured by the delicate balance of flavours in the bisque. The wine was served at a perfect temperature... An attention to detail which is often overlooked in other places. The menu, although quite short, was full of tantalising dishes and it is abundantly clear that the kitchen takes pride in using only high quality, fresh ingredients. There were also several daily special dishes on offer, which presumably change with the availability of ingredients. The prices are very good (Google lists £30-40 per person, but our meal came to less than £40 between us, including a drink. Admittedly we did not take a starter or a dessert, but we felt the value for money was excellent) As for the atmosphere, it's a small cosy place where you can easily enjoy an intimate meal, or a family gathering, knowing that the conversation won't be disturbed by loud music or noise from the street. A touch of fine dining in the centre of Cupar - we are definitely going to come back and explore the rest...
Read moreJohn Smith?!? Sounds like a made up name to me, perhaps the owner of the Pete Inn? I Completely disagree with ALL of the disbaraging comments made by this idiot who clearly has nothing better to do with his time than to get scared of a little healthy competition. What a petty load of rubbish. The food at Cafe Montmartre is fantastic as most of it's regular customers like myself will agree. The owners have been in business for over forty years and I'm sure would show Mr Smith a thing or to about how to prepare food properly and serve customers. Cafe Montmartre Cupar IS Cafe Montmartre Cupar and NOTHING to do with Cafe Mocha.
A lot of money has clearly been spent on making the restaurant into what it is and it is completely different to the way it was when it was Cafe Mocha. As for Thierry and his staff they are very polite and we'll mannered and they make no pretence about being so.
The prices are done so in a way that give great value for money not over priced minimalist food like Ostlers and others pub grubs in the surrounding area.
If you have any complaints or remarks to make to Cafe Montmartre perhaps you should consider making them in person rather than hiding behind your keyboard...
Read moreGreat wee restaurant! What a find. Tucked away in a little close just off main road, but well worth looking for. The little garden in the back ideal if you are visiting with kids that like a wee nosey around.
So glad we picked it!
Great food, lovely selection of local food, sea food and German specialties. All homemade and delicious! The bisque was great, garlic bread with anchovies was a nice touch. My jaeger schnitzel was a great choice, finally something different. Reminded me of home and the great continental cuisine. My wife's venison and wild mushroom lasagne was also very tasty. Kids menu was super simple and well ballanced, the boys had chicken strips and fried potatoes. Again, a well made dish, despite it being for kids. The fried potatoes were something else completely! Wow! Nice selection of German beers too!
Staff made us feel at home too:) Dakujeme!
Overall, great wee restaruant! When in Cuoar, we will always...
