We were the first ones here when they opened at 6pm for dinner. The greeting from the hostess wasn't very welcoming. We were there at 5:57 pm, one of the waitresses walked in the front door and the hostess almost didn't let us in from the cold outside to wait in their lobby.
I ordered a starter and my wife an entree and one desert was 25.90 pound with no drinks besides glasses of water.
Most of the time there were 4 tables occupied while we ate and there were two servers yet after our food was served the waitresses never stopped back by to check on us. We were seated in the middle of the place and I had to go to the bar to ask for a desert menu and refill on our drinks, have written this whole review and have still received neither. I'm about to go back up and ask again.
It appears the hostess is actually the proprietor. She left telling the serving girls she was going on an errand and they visibly relaxed and became a little more easy going.
I've been traveling the U.K. with my wife and we've had pleasant experiences everywhere. So much so in fact that I haven't even thought to leave a review because it's all just been so great and we've eaten out every meal the past three weeks! But this place was poor enough I decided I'd make it known to steer clear.
Also, its bland. The nachos with chili were just that; nachos, chili and cheese. No personality. I thought maybe they just threw it together behind the bar.
The steak pie was probably three or four ingredients.
My water just came after asking for the fourth time. No ice.
On top of all this, we've been completely pleasant this whole time. My wife and I have been such good customers we often are offered free deserts and deals after telling our server or bar tender of our travels but we just weren't welcome here. The serving girls don't appear to be paying much particular attention to the other guests either. They just stay behind the bar when not serving food with the proprietor talking.
The good news is the black currant and mango sorbet is very good. The wifi is also strong. Though each scoop was 3.50 pound. I asked and was told it was a mistake, which would have been admissible by itself,...
Read moreThis was my favourite place I stayed in throughout all of Scotland. Service- impeccable. Each and every staff member we encountered at the Inn were friendly, helpful, and enthusiastic about making our stay better. Even service in the restaurant was wonderful. Location- this is only a short ride outside of Portree. If you’re looking to be IN the big tourist destination, this may not be the best option for you. But if you’re looking to get out of the hustle and bustle and into a small and cozy inn, this is it! Not to mention they have water view rooms, AND gum boots in most sizes for you to go exploring out in the mud flat outside of the hotel. This was such a surprise and a super fun activity! Rooms- phenomenal! We booked a double and Queen sea room, as they unfortunately were out of a 2nd queen room. We were simply able to push the two double together. The queen room was spacious, and the double room was the size of a standard hotel room in the USA. They both had walk in showers, towel warmers, and everything was updated and decorated tastefully.
The breakfasts that were included with our room price were delicious and started each morning off right. We also ate in the restaurant the first evening we were here, which was equally as delicious. Couldn’t recommend more!
Thank you to the whole team at the Hebridean Inn for such a lovely stay! We will be back during our next trip to Scotland, and will be recommending for all family and friends...
Read moreArriving at the Hebridean Inn restaurant for dinner, I really wasn't expecting much when we walked in, décor is pretty basic so I expected much the same from the food, however I was left pleasantly surprised, ordered the shin of beef with tatties, neeps and haggis which comes in a tower form, actually a brilliant idea so complements to the chef.
Not a huge fan of haggis but the way the flavours worked together on this dish was really brilliant and now perhaps for me the only way to eat haggis. Excellent food, really good quality and good value for money at £18, the beer was good too and the waiter who served us was polite and very attentive.
This should be a 5 star review, but one thing became annoying rather quickly, on the day we visited it was very windy not untypical for Skye, and as people came and went many would not close the door properly so it kept swinging open, it was cold and drafty and although not too bad where we sat it was so frustrating for other customers who themselves had to keep getting up and closing the door, kind of made it difficult to really enjoy the food which really is the saving grace for this eatery.
Great food and service, décor a little dated and not a very warm place to eat in winter due to the door issue and lack of proper heating, some very simple fixes, a new door and a bit of a spruce up I think this would be packed most days of the week.
Excellent...
