Best vegan food we’ve had on Skye!
Being plant-based on the Isle of Skye isn’t always easy, so discovering this place was a real highlight of our trip. Although the vegan options on the menu are limited, the quality of the food more than makes up for it.
The artichoke scampi with tartar sauce and peas was absolutely phenomenal — I’ve never had anything like it before and genuinely could have eaten three portions! The roasted cauliflower biryani was another standout, perfectly spiced with al dente cauliflower and so much flavour.
We also ordered the lime and chilli greens, which are marked vegetarian on the menu but were happily made vegan for us (no butter) — great to see that kind of flexibility. For dessert, I had the pecan pie with vegan Guinness ice cream.
The setting, in a beautifully converted old church, is spacious and atmospheric, with plenty of room between tables. There’s a good selection of local beers and the wine was lovely too.
Service was excellent — mostly young, local staff who were all friendly, helpful, and really attentive throughout.
All in all, an amazing food experience. The chef is clearly very talented, and while I’d love to see more vegan options on the menu, what is available is top-tier. We’ll definitely be back — especially if the vegan...
Read moreWe booked here at short notice and were staying nearby. This is clearly a very new restaurant and lacked a bit of character in terms of its design (the very high ceiling in the main area perhaps didn’t help but a designer can counter this with the right ideas) but the atmosphere improved as more diners arrived. Service was uniformly excellent from an engaged young front of house staff. Delicious cocktails. Food wise, the menu was sensibly, fairly limited although there were daily specials placed a bit confusingly on black boards on three sides of the room which we initially weren’t alerted to. One of us ordered the fish and chips - a very generous portion that was sadly let down by too much excess oil - could have benefitted from being left to stand before plating. Because the fish was placed on top of the chips, all the oil was absorbed into the potato and pooled on the plate below - not good. Pork dish was tasty but the fat could’ve done with a touch more cooking. Desserts were rather ambitiously priced - £11 for a relatively modest portion of sticky toffee pudding does feel a bit eye opening, no matter how tasty it was. Overall, a good meal but some finessing needed in the kitchen and a little more atmosphere needed in the...
Read moreFirst of all the wait staff was kind, welcoming, and initially attentive. But as the night went on much less so. The service became inconsistent — had to ask for steak knife, dessert spoons, straw for a cocktail when those items should have been already given to us and were appropriately pre-provided to other diners. Do not get me wrong, they obviously worked hard but just not consistently efficient. The food — most items were delicious such as the sea bream (highly recommend), the fries, and the honey ice cream. The steak was a disappointment however, did not taste any seasoning whatsoever and the meat itself poorly cooked (ordered medium rare but the outside was tough to cut and chew), extra sad as cost for this did not match the quality. Lastly the cocktails really leave a lot to be desired. The recipes look interesting on paper but not as well executed, just much too sweet and lacked balance — perhaps an effort on improving this will make for a much more pleasurable experience. Would also have been nice if the cocktail glasses were proper cocktail drinkware and not just the water glasses. So, mostly good food with some caveats as above. Would still not count them out with some...
