Since I'm usually on two wheels, I snack in cafes a lot more than pubs. I'm usually disappointed at the same old stuff on the menu, five different fillings for panini, jacket potatoes, toasties and sandwiches. So what a treat to stop at Jack's in Melrose. Proper, generous salad instead of the usual skimpy iceberg, freezing tomato, overpowering onion and slimy coleslaw. Lovely cakes, superb coffee. Can't fault it. Really, unimprovable! We visited today on our way through to Peebles and, honestly, had THE best staff interaction i have had in a long time. The lady who served me (im so sorry I didnt catch your name) was bright and smiley, and you said it was your first time putting a puppacino through the till. You made the visit memorable.
