Good and bad experiences. Good: very good main meal deals, which includes a drink if you’d like to add for very little money. We had two of their burgers one evening including onion rings and chips and it was freshly cooked and tasted fantastic. Bad: worst breakfast experiences your ever likely to have. Prior to Covid lockdown, breakfasts were mostly good. Post Covid reopening, breakfasts are atrocious. By at least 10am they have normally run out of rolls. Ordered a black pudding roll this week and told there’s no rolls, but they could put the black pudding on a muffin (which they never ever toast) which was ok for me. Asked what else I wanted, as muffin comes with 2 fillings. Said I don’t want anything else, just want same as the roll but on a muffin, but told I had to choose additional filling so I said ok, an egg. Also ordered mushroom benedict with soft runny eggs. Meal finally came. My “black pudding roll” was now a muffin with 2 fried eggs and no sign of black pudding. The mushroom benedict eggs were as hard as a brick and looked as though they had been cooked days ago. The egg muffin was replaced and l received 2 slices of black pudding on a muffin and 2 fried eggs on the side???? Two minutes later, the person who originally took my order was at our table asking for a further £1.05p. I can only guess that by this stage the missordering cost had now reached the cost of a full breakfast. Asked if she was serious and she said yes. Couldn’t get my head around it and as there were other diners around, l just paid the difference. Ended up that we hardly ate anything, as it was so bad. I’ve eaten at Wetherspoons off and on since they opened for breakfast, but no more,...
Read moreThe hotel room is 1 star. Mattress was hard and un-giving. There were no softer mattress, only harder ones. Room 18 was very small, with a 9 inch gap between the bottom of the bed and the dressing table. If you get up during the night, or are not careful during the day, you WILL stub your left toes and bruise your leg. There is no external ventilation to this room, no windows that open. There is a split a/c unit that cycles stale air. You can put on the bathroom extractor fan, but this goes off when you take the keycard out of the holder that allows electricity to the room. It took 2 days to give us non-allergic replacement pillows.
The bar/restaurant is 2 star. The food is normal Weatherspoon fayre. Service varies from poor to non-existent. All bar and food ordering has to be done online. If you have an app/internet enabled phone and opt to order yourself, it can work OK. If deviating from standard stock and you need staff assistance, forget it. Our designated driver simply wanted soda water, which was not on their website. After 3 staff requests and 25 minutes later, we were told that there were people in front of us and we would have to wait while their got THE tablet to take our order. In the meantime we coould see people coming, ordering online and getting their drinks – most frustrating. The reason we give a 2 star is its central location. There is a lovely pub across the street.
At £50/night, we did not expect a lot and we were not surprised. We did however expect a reasonable night's sleep and undamaged body parts, in a room with clean air. So, on balance, 1 star is the maximum...
Read moreHotel - Friendly & helpful check in. Good shower pressure (essential), comfy firm bed with extra pillows available (without going to reception) Complimentary water bottles, a nice touch. Room was as advertised.
Housekeeping needs tightening (room was a bit dusty, old rubbish down the side of cabinets, food stains on the curtains?) Housekeeping staff were really noisy outside the room (turnarounds appear very fast). Corridors could do with a freshen up.
Aircon didn't work well (set to low temp, blasted high temp constantly). Would've been nice if the smart TV connected to the internet (functionality there, no way of connecting to cloud - WiFi was dire tbf)
Everyone needs a break, but seeing a chef eating his pizza right outside the hotel section security doors was a bit of a surprise. The seats available there definitely looked the comfiest in the whole building, I get it.
Bar - Staff couldn't care less about serving customers in order (I've worked a bar, it's not complicated) The service I received was fine (in the end) but I saw other staff getting moody with customers which isn't great for atmosphere. I get the impression the staff were overworked, it was understaffed going by the dirty tables, abandoned glasses, size of the place and footfall, but it's not the customers fault.
Tables and toilets were disgusting, felt like being trapped in a Ghostbusters Ghost Trap with Slimer.
There needs to be lighting from the street to the front door of the bar at night, accident waiting to happen.
Not put off (honestly), it's a...
