AD | Hello Dundee! Over the Easter break, we flew to Dundee via @flyloganair. Departing from London City Airport which is situated in Zone 3/4 East London, our journey to the airport was stress free and our flight to Dundee could not have been easier! Dundee is not usually a destination of choice for many of us but we discovered there was something for everyone at Dundee. We spent a day in Dundee and the must see locations are: - @vadundee: built in 2018 and the only V&A situated outside of London, this museum is Scotland’s first design museum showcasing both the traditional and modern Scottish designs - The McManus Art Gallery and Museum: a Gothic - Revival style building, this museum houses a collection of fine and decorative art showcasing Scottish heritage @mcmanusdundee - Hire a city bike and ride down to Broughty Ferry for a sandy beach and Broughty Castle - Try Dundee Tea offered by @hotelindigo_dundee which offers Scottish favourites including Cullen Skink, Scottish corned beef and Scones with Dundee marmalade Would you add Dundee to your list of destinations? ————————— #visitdundee #dundee #visitdanda #beautifulbritain #visitscotland #britainsbest #scotlandexplore #scotlandreels #dametraveler #iamtb #travelblogger #travelinladies #roamingwomen #journeysofgirls #girlstravellingsolo #topukphot #passionpassport #passportcollective #bestvacations #prettylittletrips #femmetravel #girlsthatwander #ladiesgoneglobal #darlingescapes #travelpicsdaily #worldofwanderlust 📸: @denneseychicken

Can’t rate the museum highly enough. Parking available outside (although I imagine that will fill up fast in nice weather as the beach is nearby). It’s free to enter which is amazing these days. Don’t think because it’s free it’ll be naff - it isn’t. Externally the views are wonderful and the information boards really good - who’d have thought a photographer leaning on an old bollard in Dundee would have recognised it as a cannon! Glad he did as they were dug up, restored and now on parade again. Each floor in the castle is dedicated to something different like history, wildlife, etc. It’s a steep climb up spiral stone steps but it’s worth it for the views on the lookout floor. It’s got something for everyone, but not suitable for wheelchair users or those who can’t climb stairs.

My wife and I visited this castle and museum on a Sunday. The castle and walls themselves are interesting and nice to look at. They offer great views over the firth of Tay and Brought Ferry beach. The cannons outside are pretty big and very cool The museum inside is not too bad. It is fairly small bit has some nice pieces with interesting history briefly explained. And of course it is free, which is fantastic. The only thing negative to say, the spiral staircase you have to use to get upstairs is narrow and very steep. It proved too much for my wife!! Would recommend, visit here and the beach together for an interesting and relaxing afternoon.

The walk up the gantry to the castle is quite impressive. The walk round the outside has some information boards but they don't give you any insight as to what the history of the castle is. The views across the river Tay to the Tentsmuir nature reserve and the Buddon Ness lighthouse and the Tay bridge are very nice when the sun's out. The second floor is a collection of paintings from a former lord provost James Guthrie Orchar. There well laid out and have lots of information about the paintings. The third floor has kids art& crafts and also tells the story of broughty ferry from before the time of the dinosaur till now. The fourth floor has the Armoury gallery. It has lots of weapon on show and information about the volunteers and some of there stories. The observation room is beside the Armoury room and you would have great views but there is rope/mesh round the windows and it makes it difficult to see much.

So this place was just amazing. The waters surrounding the area were swirling in all different directions making the most amazing patterns of water I have ever seen. It was one of those things you had to see in order to appreciate. It was amazing. Anyhoo the castle has no wheel chair user access. It does have an entrance uphill to it which is all cobbled and potentially dangerous for wheel chair users. The castle it's self is all tight spiral staircase that takes you to all of the interesting floors each with their own views. The top has a viewing area which is lovely.

Well worth a visit. It has great views from the viewing room at the top. There are 4 floors each with an interesting display. The first floor has a shop and through the back, a coffee machine. There is a lovely model of the train ferry that used to run across to Tayport. The floor above has a display of paint gs from the Orchar collection. The next floor has information about the natural history of the area. The top floor has displays of old weapons and uniforms as well as the aforementioned viewing room. The stairs are very steep and there is no charge for admittance.

Description
Broughty Castle is a historic castle on the banks of the River Tay in Broughty Ferry, Dundee, Scotland. It was completed around 1495, although the site was earlier fortified in 1454, when George Douglas, 4th Earl of Angus, received permission to build on the site.
