Moved to Broughty Ferry recently and we discovered this family owned (I think) Italian restaurant. Walked in and immediately felt like I’m back in Italy again. The decorations and atmosphere with Italian tv shows playing in the background is just amazing. Me and my boyfriend booked a table for 2 at 5pm and glad we did cause it was packed very soon. We sat by the window and ordered the luxury hot chocolate, Quattro formaggi pizza and carbonara.
The hot chocolate is fantastic. We were wondering whether we’ll get the thick ones like in Italy or the watery kind. It was thick, smooth, chocolatey and with the cream on top, it just brings back memories.
Then the pizza and pasta came. We were both sharing so we basically got a bit of both in our plates. Not really a big fan of their carbonara to be honest. Yes it’s creamy but it’s kinda like a British kind of carbonara. With added cream and bacon, we were just wishing we could get one without any cream on. It’s a different kind of style and I think it’s just our preference. Moving on to the pizza. I ordered this as we are big fans of cheese and this didn’t disappoint us at all. It was packed. Saw a review saying it’s like cheese soup and yes they’re right. You can see on the photo there’s cheese just leaking to the side. We love it. Definitely give it a try if you’re one of us.
We were actually stuffed when we finished our mains cause it’s a whole lot of food. But of course we have to have desserts. We got the mini bombolini bites with Nutella. Came in hot and we enjoyed every bite of it. It was coated in cinnamon sugar, not too sweet, kind of like mini doughnuts. Loved it.
We came in yesterday night to get some ice cream as well but we ended up getting a biscoff slice and some mini white chocolate and salted caramel cannolis. The biscoff slice is just divine. The cannolis fillings are a bit too sweet for us but overall very good.
Definitely will come again and try more of their food, especially...
Read moreWe waited a while to be seated but I think that was due to where the waiting area is rather than there were no tables. You are out of the eyeline of staff and are not seen. There also didn't seem to be a designated person to seat customers. Once seated the service was quick. 3 adults and 1 child in a highchair. The menu is quite large for such a small café and includes lots of Italian food. A long list of pasta and pizza dishes are available. The children's menu was very small and limited, but I assume you could order anything from the menu in a smaller portion for them. The cafe is licenced to sell alcohol although we only had tea and coffee. We all had ice creams from the special ice cream menu which is fairly large. The server didn't know what flavours were available, and as the counter was very busy we couldnt get close to see for ourselves so our choices were limited to gueww work. The portion sizes were good and we didn't have long to wait. Lots of cookies in the cookies and cream sundae. The raspberry snowball sundae was really tasty. The price was good at £7.50 per sundae. That's pretty average for the area and the ice cream is very good. Visocchi's is an institution in Broughty Ferry and I have been going since childhood and taking my children and now my grandchild there. It is very busy but you can order takeaway ice cream as well as pizza. They also have a small section of deli and cakes. There was a problem with the ladies toilets yesterday so everyone had to use the gents but the staff checked before allowing...
Read moreGelateria shows £3 for 2 scoops at entrance. After eating in and ordering 2 × 2 scoops, surprised to be charged £10(£5 × 2) instead of a total of £6. Already saw the price at the entrance why would we bother checking for extra charges in the menu.
State the sit-in premium price on the displayed menu or tell customers who order ice-cream that theyre being charged extra because theyre not gonna check the menu again when they sit if they already saw the prices at the entrance.
Wouldnt recommend the icecream here. Didnt like it before paying extra and like it even less now.
(Edit) In response to the owner I reiterate: The pricelist at the entrance stipulated 2 scoops for 3 Quid Staff at the cashier DID NOT 'advise me that it would be more expensive in the seating area' he merely said 'table service?' The menu was already on the table we did not look at it as we relied on the prices we had seen at the entrance which was the reason why we chose to eat at the place. How u choose to charge customers who sit in is your prerogative but the onus is on you to make any price differences apparent on the SAME price list at the entrance especially when the price is 66% more. The sundae glasses were not scraped clean. Besides even if they were it doesnt matter. I didnt say it...
