As an asian who grew up in East Asia and has had authentic Korean food I can confirm that this is not remotely Korean at all. Honestly would even be gutted to call it a fusion. Extremely disappointed as the food was unbelievably tasteless and plain.
Ordered the Koreatown pizza and corndog. First of all, what you get for a 7 pounds pizza is a piece of bread that's smaller than a iPhone 15 with cheese and a shameful amount of pulled beef brisket kind of beef. The beef is absolutely not bulgogi-related as its honestly not much more flavourful than a purely boiled piece of beef (seriously where was my bulgogi???) They did mention the size of the pizza in the description so I don't blame the size but was expecting the beef being well marinated or at least covered with bulgogi sauce. As for the corndog, they used a Frankfurter sausage instead of hot dog which is again mentioned in the description so understandable if it tastes not as authentic due to the choice of sausage. However, the batter outside is not what you would use for a Korean/ asian style hotdog. It’s much fluffier and tastes more like a pizza dough/ bread instead of the batter you would normally use which should have a hint of sweetness and is denser. I would say the corndog itself is ok if there is no “korean” in the description.
Another thing I wanted to point out is the 5% service charge they automatically apply for you when you check out on the kiosk, even for the take out order. Yes it is removable but I do think it's quite cheeky to add that as I believe there're people like me who didn't notice but pay for it. Also isn't it slightly questionable for the take out customer to pay for the service?
I had high expectations for Kimchi Cult but unfortunately ended up writing an essay expressing how upsetting my experience was. I never hesitate to pay for the food and the service even when the portion size might be small, as long as it is good. But this time I feel angry, disrespected and its sad how people who have never tried Korean would think this is Korean.
Overall would not recommend. It’s not that they use bad ingredients or the food tastes bad, it’s the fact they describe themselves as Korean food (or Korean inspired?) but genuinely it is bland enough to maybe be an insult to Korean people, the culture, and Asian food in general. The food and the restaurant look so so good, but have no...
Read moreI had been meaning to try this place for a while based on recommendations and overall it was pretty good and I would be happy to return. I had the vegetarian (mushroom) bulgogi bibimbap and an iced lemon tea. Both were pretty tasty and reasonably priced with good heart portion sizes. The decor was also pretty cool.
I do have a few points of feedback though, for example it took quite a while for our order to arrive. In fairness, the waiter warned us when we arrived that it would be around 10 minutes for food orders, and I also liked that he asked us if we'd been to Kimchi Cult before so he could explain to us how ordering works. However, in reality it was 10 minutes for the drinks and at least 20 for the food. I don't know if the kitchen was prioritising delivery orders or what but it was too long to wait in what is supposed to be a 'street food' or 'fast food' style place. The other downside was the use of disposable plates and cutlery even though we were eating in. This felt a bit cheap and also meant the bibimbap was pretty lukewarm by the time it got to us. The floor was also pretty dirty even though at that point in the day it hadn't rained much.
Despite the above, I would happily go back if I was in the area and the issues I have mentioned are...
Read moreWow. Just wow. I have eaten my fair share of chicken burgers, but nothing—nothing—comes close to the absolute masterpiece that is the Gochujang Blue Cheese Burger. From the first bite to the last, this burger was a mind-blowing fusion of bold flavors, perfect textures, and pure indulgence.
The chicken was flawlessly cooked—crispy on the outside, impossibly juicy on the inside—coated in a rich, smoky, and slightly spicy gochujang glaze that had just the right amount of heat. Then, the blue cheese. Oh, the blue cheese! Creamy, tangy, and decadently funky, it balanced the spice like a dream, creating a depth of flavor that kept me coming back for more. And let’s talk about the bun—soft yet sturdy, absorbing all the delicious juices without falling apart.
Every element was in perfect harmony, making each bite a rollercoaster of umami, spice, and creamy goodness. I genuinely can’t stop thinking about it. If you ever get the chance to try this burger, do not hesitate. It’s a game-changer, a life-changer—easily the best chicken burger I...
