Maggie's Bar & Kitchen — Restaurant in Scotland

Had never been before and very likely won't be back. We had pre booked a table for 3 adults and 2 babies at 1pm. Arrived to find only one high chair was available. We each ordered a soft drink and the same starter and a different main from the menu. The starter was rather small but enjoyable. We then waited 45/50 minutes for the mains which were 3 pasta dishes and received only one "sorry" in passing from our waitress as she went to clean the table beside ours. Other parties who had arrived after us were served their food as we sat waiting without an update. When we asked another waitress for the bill at 2:45 we had still not received our mains and we were told they were just being plated up because it was busy. Bill came to £27.45 for 4 soft drinks and 3 chicken tempura starters. We were charged full price for the starters despite each ordering from the 'Maggies specials' section of the menu. As we were packing up to leave because we couldn't wait any longer the owner who was cleaning a table asked how our meal had been. We explained we only had our starters and now had to leave to do the nursery pick up so could not wait on our mains and had already been waiting at least 45 minutes. He asked if this was our first time at the restaurant, and then went on to say sorry they were busy and he hoped this hadn't put us off coming back. He didnt seem in the slightest bit sorry and it didn't come across at all that he genuinely cared. He then offered no help as we struggled out the front door with 2 prams. Came here for a special occasion lunch & cocktails. Unfortunately the poor service lets the place down massively. It's nicely decorated and looks modern, initial food order & drinks order were taken quite quickly. Meal was nice, took a while to come out considering there was only 2/3 other tables booked. When the meal was finished we asked for more drinks (our drinks had been empty for some time), again they took a while to come out. After this drink, the service was very poor. We were struggling to even flag anyone down, and we weren't the only ones looking for some service. We sat probably for an hour with no drinks and barely any staff to catch the attention of, we genuinely felt that when we made eye contact from a distance the staff went in another direction. When we finally got a waitress, she came across rude and unprofessional, like we were just a burden for her. Anytime one of our party asked for a particular gin, she was being told "it's not available as it's in the bar at the reception" - why not get the gin from the reception bar then? Didn't seem like a difficult task. She finally managed to get a gin which was available, the bill had the wrong gin charged (the most expensive one funnily enough, even though it was the cheapest one ordered). In the 4.5 hours we were there we only managed to get 3 drinks, which is a real shame as we would have stayed longer if the service was better. Very disappointed in this place, me and my partner came here for a date. We booked before hand to avoid any long wait. When we arrived the place was quiet with one table sat. We waited at the bar for someone to come and take our details, while waiting there were two staff I could see hanging about the only table that was there for around 8 mins before they even noticed we were there. The young girl came up eventually and asked how she could help. Asked if we could sit outside as it was a nice day. When we sat outside we could see that the table was not cleaned and the bench was very wobbly and unsecured. So we moved to the other which wasn't much better but we stayed there anyway. I went in to order us drinks and ask for the menu (this wasn't given when we were taken outside) and again I had to stand at the bar for a while with no staff present. Ordered drinks and got the menu. Ordered our food, my partner ordered a steak pie and I ordered a veggie burger. Again another long wait went by... finally got our food and tucked in. My veggie burger was frozen one from a supermarket. After a few bites my partner noticed a long black hair right in the middle of his pie. So we had to get up and leave. Girl at the bar didn't offer any apologies or money off our drinks. So I said we won't be paying for the food as we had 1 or 2 bites out of it.
