I've been a customer of McLeod's for a couple of years not but after tonight's experience I think it'll be the last time.

They used to be fantastic, by far the best chippy in Inverness and one of the best in the country, but over the last few months the quality of everything has completely dropped off.

We ordered two fish suppliers and a curry sauce tonight. We collected, and got it home and ready to eat within ten minutes. It was still hot.

The chips were very undercooked. They looked awfully pale and were quite tough, as uncooked potato is. They also had that typical starchy raw potato taste.

The fish was pretty bad too. Mine had about three fish fingers worth of fish in amongst the overcooked batter, my partners had slightly more, but still not as much as one would expect.

The curry sauce was perfectly fine.

Overall we ended up tossing two thirds of the meal into the food waste bin. This isn't the first bad meal I've had from McLeod's, it just so happens to be the worst one yet so we've decided not to risk it...

My first impression was that the renowned Charlie's Fish bar had changed hands and was now McCleods but there were a few customers waiting outside so we thought we'd take a chance. The staff were not welcoming. We waited outside with our ticket then noticed that 50p had been added onto each of the main dishes. I asked them about this and was proudly told by the proprietor that if I read the small print on the menu "Prices & Content subject to Change at Any Time" So that's okay then. Then when our order was being served, they congregated, laughed and the worst of them kept looking out at me and giggling. The best of them, however, did apologise for the price increase and I was able to explain to her that their behaviour at serving made us wonder what we were going to be given but that the meals themselves looked nice. and indeed the meal itself was nice - but I don't want to be left wondering whether our food had been tampered with. I shared this with them but thought it my duty to share...

Ease of lockdown meant for the first time in months I could enjoy a much longed for chippy. Have never been in since new folks took over and have to say it was well worth the wait. Turned up after work-they were very busy and told it would take a while but so worth the wait. Had white pudding supper for myself steak pie supper for the pie connoisseur and took home a red pudding supper for my neighbour. Three words.....to die for. Staff very very busy. Assuming it was the owner frying and he was absolutely flat out. Everything perfect. Chips nice a dry and plenty of them. We all thoroughly enjoyed them and can see why folk give it such good reviews. First class food. You Merkinchers are lucky so and so's. Good value and well worth the three month wait. Well done staff...

My personal favourite fish & chip shop to visit. Their batter is amazing. Crispy yet without excess oil and the fish has a nice flavour to it. Their battered mushrooms are large, flavoursome and come accompanied with a smallish tub of garlic mayo. Really tasty, hold their crisp and don't turn to mush when you bite them. The onion rings are fantastic. Nice bite to them and really great value. Might have a wee bit of a wait in orders but that just shows how popular it is as a stop off point for dinner in the way home. 👍🏻

Googled 'the best chip shop in inverness' and they gave this a 4.9 score! They weren't wrong but I would say it's a 5* establishment! Food was absolutely beautiful! Haddock supper was to die for. Crispy batter and fresh white haddock. Chips were cooked to perfection. My partner devoured the tattie fritters too. The owner/fryer was so welcoming, friendly and helpful. Would definitely drive the 200 miles just for this chip shop again haha

I have had a handful of takeaway meals from here on gluten free nights and I have been very satisfied every time. I am glad that they give the option and take the effort for GF people to eat from takeaways. They have plenty of delicious options from Jumbo sausage to White pudding to Haggis and more. Their Gravy and curry sauces also very tasty as well as their chips which are made from proper fresh potatoes. Keep up the good work.
