My husband and I ended up here for supper one night after seeing good reviews online. We didn't have a reservation so we had to wait for a table. The host was kind and sympathetic despite our lack of reservation and got us in after 45 minutes. It was worth the wait! The service here was awesome. Very warm and welcoming. Good team effort as we were attended to by 4 people during the course of our meal. Our primary server, whose name I have forgotten, was particularly lovely. She said she only recently started working there after her kids were grown, and she was a total natural and her friendliness was a highlight. The atmosphere was really nice. A busy place with locals and tourists, cozy without being too crowded. A reasonable level of noise for how busy it was. We were tucked into a corner which was a fairly quiet spot. My husband got the chicken sizzler which was the largest portion of chicken either of us has ever seen! He said it was really nicely flavored and juicy. Soooo much cheesy goodness on top! I got the Jacobite chicken which is stuffed with blaggis (black pudding plus haggis) which was a great combination. Perfectly cooked and I loved it. The gravy was an excellent complement to the chicken, and was rich without being heavy. My portion was a little small but a couple bites of my husband's chicken evened things out. I didn't get potatoes as a side and instead got extra carrots. Totally did not expect them to blow my mind, but wow! Best carrots I've ever had. Garden fresh, perfectly cooked, lovely light glaze. Highly recommend. We had no room for dessert, sadly. I saw other diners' desserts and they looked awesome. Wonderful experience and good value for money especially in a touristy town like Inverness.

Any hopes I had of a good meal were dashed on the rocks as soon as the starters arrived. Cauliflower wings, salt and pepper mushrooms were a let down (see pictures) The prawns were nice but once again hard to derail. Fish and chips were insipid. 2 slivers of haddock in unseasoned batter. The 4 onion rings had merely been exposed to heat but removed before any cooking took place. The steak pie came with the pastry baked and the filling beside it. It did not say "deconstructed" pie or anything like that. King prawn Enchiladas were nice but a lot of courgettes. All in all a bit disappointing to say the least. This was supposed to be the meal night but was an absolute bust. Not sure if the chef was phoning it in or similar. The bits we didn't eat are in the picture. So in short, this cost us the sum of £78 with a service charge. I'm quite happy to pay 40 over that for a decent meal. Would I go back, no. If you go I hope you enjoy the 4.4 ⭐ experience and not the 2⭐ I had. (Did I give them feedback at the time, hmmmm, how do I say this entire meal is a tribute to school dinners in the 80s)

A hit and miss meal 🙁 My wife and I had evening meals on two consecutive days. The first day, we had really enjoyable meals with very good service. We were so happy, we booked a table for the next day. Unfortunately, our experience the next day was the complete opposite. We were served stale bread, the grilled fish was dry and the Highlander burger was served dry and cold in a cold bun. We had to bring this to the attention of the waiter. The plate was returned to the kitchen. It seems the chef put the plate in a hot oven for a few minutes, instead of preparing a fresh burger. The plate came back very hot, but the burger was very very dry !! The manager was nice and he did not charge us for this dish. I do not believe that a pub with such a hit and miss quality of food should be given the title of the number one gastro pub in the North of Scotland 😟 I don’t think I will go back to this pub again

Decided to visit here as the rating was good.

However failed to read the reviews with the hit and miss food and service!

We ordered our drinks and only received 3/4's of them, not sure how you can take an order of 4 drinks from a table of 4, bring 3 and be surprised that there was supposed to be 4!

The coke syrup had clearly run out as the coke that was served was nearly transparent, but still had to be pointed out to the staff.

They missed to put one of our starters through the till so had to wait for that, by the time that got to our table the others had finished!

The mains; Asked for boiled potatoes with one of the mains they sent chips,. Asked for the whisky sauce with the steak, they sent peppercorn. The fish mixed grill was salty, and some pieces so dry you couldn't even cut them. The burger was dry and the mozzarella cheese was black where they'd melted it! Not sure if it's a Scottish thing or something the chef here thought was a good idea, but never would I dream of putting coleslaw with beef, Yorkshire pudding and jus! We ordered 2 portions of onions rings and they only sent 1!

Ordered desserts, sticky toffee pudding was supposed to be served with ice cream! A tea spoon of ice cream in a ramekin topped with squirty cream and a small square of sponge for £7 WOW!! 😳

Ordered an Irish coffee and a Tia Maria coffee, which were descrided as the worst they'd had!! Used squirty cream to top the coffee which had dissolved before they could drink it! And tasted as bad as it looked!

The staff had no organisation at all, the shorter Older lady was wondering around in her own little world, different staff serving every table instead of the same staff servicing the same tables.

We won't be back while we're in Inverness. And not sure how they've been described as award winning food 3 years running! I'm guessing this wasn't...

After working a long shift at the pipping championships yesterday me and my partner popped in for food, we were seated and drinks were served really fast which I can not complain about but after that we had waited 30minutes to be ignored by all members of staff, the young girl with the brown pony tail was more interesting in flirting and twirling her hair at the barman. The blonde girl totally ignored us each time we asked to order and the poor young boy was running about doing everyone else's work. After being fed up and still waiting for our order for starters to even be taken I asked the young boy for the bill for our 2 drinks which came to £9.35 we explained why we were leaving and how back the customer service was. He then came over when my partner was getting sorted to pay and said "Don't worry about the bill guys it's on us". We then leave, later on I walk into my local pub dows and I am informed I'm no longer allowed to be in and to finish my drink because I had apparently left your pub with out paying for a meal that I had never got the chance to order let alone eat. Absolutely disgraceful service! I have been trying to contact the manager but still cannot get in touch. Never again will I recommend to any one nor will I be coming back. Absolutely ridiculous to be asked to leave my local over a £9 bill I was told not to pay...
