Merchants House Cafe — Restaurant in Scotland

We visited early April to have afternoon tea, we were in Cellardyke in Fife and wanted somewhere that felt comfortable since we have two young children, and was struggling to find somewhere, then saw the cakes made here and knew it was the place for us! it was just under an hour's drive from our holiday cottage but well worth it!

We weren't sure if a two person afternoon tea would be enough with our children and were given the option to do a three person one, which we did. We could've definitely managed with the two person one as the portions were generous and so tasty! We were given options for hot drinks, my husband had tea and I had got chocolate which was huge and arrived with lots of cream and marshmallows topped with a marshmallow daisy.

I ran out of room very quickly (my husband managed more!), so when we were all done we were offered boxes to take away our remaining cakes.

The atmosphere was relaxed and the staff were so friendly! The cafe was clean and tidy and it was an added bonus that not only does it have a toilet, but there is a baby change as well. We will definitely return if we holiday...

Merchants House Café is an absolute treasure. Housed in a beautifully restored 16th-century building, it blends historic charm with modern comfort. The coffee is consistently excellent, and the home baking is some of the best you’ll find—fresh, generous, and clearly made with care. Vegan and dietary-friendly options are clearly marked and genuinely tasty (not an afterthought like in some places).

We were lucky to spot this amazing cafe during our trek along the Fife Coastal Path. A relatively new cafe with an amazing business plan. Huge selection of amazing cakes and pastries all homemade, even donuts! And a great lockdown selection of sandwiches too. We were amazed with the price too. The slice of Raspberry and chocolate explosion was incredible, a HUGE slab which was perfect for sharing and ate before our sandwiches were ready (and before I could take a photo!). And we were very tempted to go and choose another cake! But we resisted reluctantly. We had a bbq pulled pork panini and a chicken, bacon and coleslaw panini.
