Oh dear...hate doing a poor review but here goes. Called in here at my husband's recommendation...really wish we had kept on driving. Sat at a table and waited for someone to take our order - tea, cola, all day breakfast and a jacket potato. Not difficult really. Was told by the young lad taking our order that there were no all day breakfasts or jacket potatoes, so alternatives chosen - tuna sandwich and an egg mayo sandwich and a bowl of chips to share. Waited...and waited...and waited for our drinks, at one point asked the lad about the delay and was told that drinks take a lot longer than food!! Food eventually arrived, which to be fair was OK, chips eventually arrived. Still waiting for our drinks by the way. Watched the other tables who were all waiting for menus, food, drinks. One table who I think had ordered got up and left as they'd arrived before us. Finished our food, and lo and behold our drinks arrived. I asked the server why they were so late. I got told in no uncertain terms that the young male who took our order was only 15 and due to his age is limited to what he can do. Fair enough, but wouldn't you allocate him jobs he can do at that age, e.g. take accurate orders, clear and wipe tables, bring the prepared drinks etc? We went to pay and we were given someone else's bill...the young lad had written the wrong table number on the order....bit difficult to do when the table number is clearly indicated on the table. We did pay our bill, complained to the lovely girl who was obviously preparing the food and she looked mortified and as if 'oh God, more people complaining...'. Maybe it was an off-day which we all have, but employ staff who are of an age where they can do jobs needed in a cafe. Sorry, but we won't call...
Read moreMy son and I were at Gretna Gateway (Caledonia Park) and decided to call in here for a bite to eat. After looking at the menu and asking what the soup of the day was we decided to have soup and a sandwich. We approached the serving area and asked if we ordered there or at a table and were told it was table service. As we walked away the woman then said there was no hot food. This was despite the fact it was 1 o'clock yet the notice said they were open until 3!!! I then asked what about soup which she said she could just manage 2 of. We then asked about sandwiches in case they were in short supply and with a look of disgust on her face, eyes rolled to heaven and a loud tut - oh well o.k. I'll do that then, then said to the boy tell them to sit down, completely ignoring us. It was obvious she couldn't be bothered to make up sandwiches but was going to make a big effort for us....... Her attitude was a disgrace and we told her to forget it and walked out. I would have thought people would be happy to be back at work after the long covid spell. If you don't want to treat customers with some respect - don't forget we are the ones paying your wages - then don't work in hospitality. We went into Gretna and had a nice lunch where staff were happy to serve us. Needless to say we...
Read moreThis place used to be good. We have used it regularly on our journeys between Scotland and England. But today we came and there was a reduced menu to only sandwiches and baked potatoes, which was fine.
We ordered 2 drinks, which took 15 minutes to be served and 2 sandwiches which took 45 minutes to be served.
The slow service for 2 sandwiches made us late for where we were going. The service was ridiculously slow and the cafe wasnt even particularly busy. When asked how much longer should we expect to wait after waiting for 35 minutes, the server was quite rude about it and did not apologise or forewarn us about the long wait for food.
The service was that slow, that we witnessed people going back to the till to cancel their orders after waiting an excessively long amount of time.
The staff have no urgency or pace above sloth. I urge the manager to train the young workers on delivering a fast and...
