Papa Rab’s Restaurant, Takeaway & Bar — Restaurant in Scotland

On a recent visit to Scotland, we were looking for lunch in the Stranraer area on a Mon. We were directed to several eateries but all were closed until 3-4pm. Finding Papa Rab's closed, I noticed the takeaway door and stuck my head it to ask where we could find lunch. To my surprise, the proprietor led us into the dining room and offered to make lunch for us.

We chose a large margarita pizza which easily fed the three of us. It was excellent with gooey cheese and rivalled pizza I had eaten in Tuscany, IT. And the price, even for our special service, was very agreeable. I only regret that our route that day did not bring us back through Stranraer for dinner to sample more of their excellent fare.

Everyone should experience the food, friendly attitude and generosity of Papa Rab's.

Service and staff lovely. Nice place. Non-pizza dishes were good. Seems like a nice place if you treat it as a standard restaurant 🙂

Skip the pizza though. The dough is chewy, tasteless and didn't crisp at all. The low-moisture mozz is also pretty poor as they go. Stringy to the point of being plastic-y. Combined with the underwhelming tomato sauce, it makes for a very average topping. Toppings themselves were tasty and of good quantity.

I'd recommend reviewing the hydration of the dough and making sure it's prepared well enough in time to develop flavour. That is if it's not delivered ready from the supplier. Equally there are much better low-moisture...

I only give 1 start because i cant give zero has got food paid over £120 for famliy of 7 the place is Pretty pricey we had leave a tip because we thought food was okish pizza was not the nicest but ok the staff was slow and there was 3 other famliy there and i tell me famliy about the place because there come up on hoilday and sitting down on table and the The chef had run up to table and was screaming saying you stole the salt and pepper when you where her last week if i Stole salts and pepper then why would i tell my famliy about the place and leave £12 tip i wish i neaver give tip and i paid £120 and tip of £12 to stole £2...
