If I could leave 10 stars - I would. My wife and I are travelling Scotland for our 25th wedding anniversary, and are staying over night in Loch Lammles at Queen of the Loch. We checked out the pub for a vegan burger for my wife. Mick the chef came out personally to talk with her and offered to make her a customer off the menu burger using their cauliflower wings as the burger. I will eat vegan and meat, I had a bite of my wife’s burger as I had the ultimate southern fried chicken burger. My wife won dinner, this burger Mick made was possibly she most delicious burgers (vegan or not) I ever tasted. Mick went above and beyond, he is an amazing person and chef, I cannot tell you how much it meant for him to care about people who eat the food he makes. This must become a menu item. That’s not the end, the young bartender with a tattoo of a camera and a cat on his forearm also went above and beyond. He helped give us directions to local shopping, and was the on to go bring Mick out, sadly I didn’t get his name. Lastly the manager with the beard and shaved head was incredible. I highly recommend anyone looking for a place to eat here go, and enjoy.

The Queen of the Loch was recommended to us. Unfortunately we were severely disappointed. While the rest of the food was ok, the House Salad was a total disappointment. We normally do not order a salad in a pub, but the description in the menu was so tempting that we tried it. What we got were some mixed and already very wrinkly leaves with a very dry chicken breast and bacon on it. No quinoa, brown rice, soy beans or fried onions and definitely no dressing. The waitress told us the other ingredients were out of stock and there was dressing on the salad mixed with the leaves (although the leaves and the plate were visibly totally dry. She would bring us dome „extra“ dressing. All in all the salad was a disaster and definitely not worth the price. While it is ok that ingredients can go out of stock, the way the problem was dealt with was also a major part of our dissatisfaction. If we were just told that the salad is not possible in this way when we ordered we would definitely have found enough other options. Also, the visible lack of any kind of dressing should not be encountered with „it is in there“.

We chose to come to The Queen of the Loch as we were staying in the area and looking for a dog friendly pub. It was exceptionally dog friendly! There’s a lovely cosy area where dog owners can take their four legged friends and they were happy for our Yorkie to sit up beside us (we take a blanket for her to sit on and she’s good as gold) so that was lovely. Our food was absolutely delicious and came quickly although they did get the order wrong on my husband’s meal (he ordered the beef lasagne with chips instead of garlic bread but it arrived with garlic bread and no chips) but it was soon rectified and he got bowl of chips a few minutes later, plus let him keep the garlic bread by way of apology. We also had to ask for cutlery as the food arrived first, and then we also had to ask again for basic condiments like salt so perhaps you could provide cutlery and condiments at the time of order rather than waiting to bring them (or not bring them in our case!) after the food arrives. This was only a minor thing though and didn’t spoil our enjoyment of the food.

Absolutely abysmal! Very disappointing to have to write this review but I'm pretty appalled. I booked a table a couple of hours prior to arriving for myself and family. We were immediately seated near to where the child's play area used to be (which is now filled with broken machines). The table was filthy, sticky and marks of food and drinks from the previous diners. Staff apparently don't care, no pride in their work, clearly. After ordering our food, the starters arrived with things missing. My daughters "drizzled with bbq sauce" chicken arrived in a tiny dish, dry, no sauce, nothing. My mushrooms arrived without the garlic mayo. My husband went up to the bar to ask where the sauce etc was and it took the staff a good 7 minutes on the clock to bring over tiny ramekins with garlic and bbq sauce.. Then our mains arrived. My chicken tikka arrived without the poppadom and mango chutney, my husbands hunters chicken arrived without the onion rings. My husband again went over to the bar to ask where the rest of our food was. To be told they had ran out of both poppadoms and mango chutney. So they weren't going to mention and hope we didn't mind paying full price for a meal with missing items?! After 15 mins, they finally brought out the onion rings; of course by this point my husband had already finished his meal so this was just ridiculous. No apologies, no offer of a reduction on our bill. Nothing. We come here fairly regularly for a casual, relaxed family meal. The food we did have wasn't great. Tasteless, mundane, sauce out of a jar flavour, questionable portions, too. The bowl of soup my husband had for his starter was comical - more liquid in a shot glass! Served with one very thin slice of cheap bread. I cannot believe how much this place has gone downhill. Sad to say but I do not see it lasting much longer with the awful service, mediocre food and the charging full price for meals with missing parts!

Some staff training wouldn't go a miss here!

We will...

No refund for an inhabitable room We booked to stay here overnight on the 9th June as a party of 9 people.

We were given the key card to a room, when we got there there was a strong smell of urine coming from the bathroom, it was disgusting! We went to reception and were escorted back to the room by a young man whose solution to the problem was to offer us an air freshener!

Told that was unacceptable he said that was all he could offer as they were fully booked, we told him we were going to find somewhere else to stay and he said a refund wouldn't be a problem.

The others in our party were eating on site that evening so we, as planned, joined them for a meal, the staff could not possibly have got the order more wrong. Meals were turning up with only half of the items listed, wrong meals were brought out, and 2 meals never turned up at all. When after everyone else had finished and the 2 meals were had still not turned up, we asked the waiter (same young man that offered us an air freshener) where they were, after a wait of around 15 minutes, despite us waiting on 2 meals, 3 meals turned up.... VERY disjointed to say the least, and the place wasn't even busy, I can't imagine how bad it is when the restaurant is full.

Whilst at the meal we were told by the young man that there was no manager as such at the hotel, cost cutting I guess, so he asked the hear chef to head chef to take a look at the room, and he agreed that it certainly did smell.

The hotel was booked through Booking.com and they have informed us that the hotel have refused to refund.

My wife and I travel a lot and use a lot of hotels but will never be staying in another Marstons owned one.

UPDATE AFTER "RESPONSE FROM THE OWNER" Still no refund, be very careful when booking this place, they obviously...

We did not a booking so were very happy to be seated very quickly at a table for 7 (4 adults, 3 kids). We ordered starters and main courses at the bar, and waited around 10 minutes to receive our first course. After that, the experience went downhill.

Apparently, the check for the mains was not sent to the kitchen when the starters were cleared, meaning we waited just under an hour for our mains. This was around 25 minutes after we were told of the issue. I understand mistakes happen, but sitting with 3 children and 2 pensioners, I would have hoped a token gesture of a small amount off the bill, or a free dessert would be offered, but we were not approached by another member of staff again during our visit, other than delivering the mains that had clearly sat under the heat lamps for a significant amount of time.

The food itself was mostly okay - the kids, my partner, and myself had variations of burgers. However, my parents had the hunter’s chicken and the scampi. The chicken was rated as “okay at best”, and the scampi was described as “the worst I’ve ever had.”

There is a McDonald’s across the road - had we not prepaid the meal at the bar (no table service, yikes), I would have settled the bill for the starters and drinks and took the family for a Big Mac instead. At least we would have had fresh food given to us in a timely manner there. Also, they probably clean their toilets.

It probably doesn’t need to be said, but we spend a decent amount of time visiting the Loch Lomond area, and we will never visit this place again. Disappointing, because our local Marstons is actually decent other than...
