Contrary to the positive reviews I can see about this establishment I had a different experience. We went here after seeing positive gluten free reviews. We have a lot of anxiety around eating out due to coeliac disease but we hadn’t managed to get out for a meal in a long time so gave it a shot. The service from our actual waiter couldn’t be faulted however the attitude of the head waiter/manager should be looked at. After a bit of a delay we ordered 2 starters and main courses to all be gluten free. After a slight hiccup involving pizza my partner decided to order pasta. My partners dish arrived and up until this point everything was fine. A second pasta dish appeared at our table as a replacement for my partners dish. Of which caused panic and confusion due to coeliac disease. We were reassured on 4 separate occasions that both dishes were definitely gluten free but nobody could answer “why does it need to be swapped” so after a visible panic attack, the untouched replacement dish was taken and we were offered dessert. To which we declined to be met with visible attitude from the head waiter/manager. And not only that for him to start gossiping and moaning about us with his colleagues. So, with a panic attack, hunger and obvious embarrassment we’re now getting stared at. The head waiter/manager should be ashamed of themselves. The restaurant assured us this was all due to a new employees lack of experience but this is not true. It doesn’t explain why a second identical dish was made and sent to our table and it doesn’t explain why we were made to feel rotten by the head waiter/manager. We will not be back. Gluten free. In response to your reply. I’ve noticed you’re still passing your buck onto your young servers. The waiting staff you are referring to told us she was told to swap ours for a new one. The servers do what you tell them. Your manager was obnoxious when I politely declined a dessert. Huffing as he turned away. I’ve written this review to warn coeliac sufferers of a bad experience. It’s my opinion of events that happened to me.

Firstly, let’s say I was disappointed to be called two hours before our table booking to be told the usual menu of the day (£20 for 3 courses) was not going to be available and only festive menu. I had specifically booked to avoid festive menus, and now no choice , and an extra £25 cost added for our family of 5 (£25 each for 3 courses). Restaurant was busy, seated for 10 minutes before drinks order taken, and no one offered to hang up jackets…although they did for the table of ten who arrived behind us. Hmmm. Menu was OK nice choice, but my wife and son had to send back the “breaded mushrooms with brie and mozzarella” starters as they were in fact dry and without any cheese. Replacement alternate starters OK. My main course salmon was lovely but my other son complained his burger with cheese and cranberry had so much cranberry it was bitter tasting. Desserts were nothing special and caramel cake base was lumpy crushed digestives. Overall the meal was mediocre at best and can’t say I’ll be back in a hurry. £188 for Saturday lunch for 5 was not great value ( including two bottles of wine ).

The food was fantastic! Can't fault any of the dishes we had. Our server had a great sense of humour and was attentive just the right amount, considering how busy it was. One of the servers accidentally spilled food towards one of my friends which then spilled onto her clothes a little. She seemed quite new, still learning. She apologised but could have tried to help clean up or replace the food that fell on the floor. Our table was situated right beside the food hatch and toilets so people were passing constantly. Not the best if you want a quiet, intimate evening. Regardless of this, we had a lovely time and would highly recommend the sea bass and carbonara!

First time in Rocca and maybe it was just bad timing. I called up Saturday and asked to book at table for 8.40 the guy on the phone said no problem. Arrived at 8.40 and got seated, with in 2 mins of taking my jacket off I was asked if I wanted a drink (nothing wrong with that it's been a long week and needed one) Before the drinks have even arrived we where asked for our food order, so 5 mins In to arriveing it was drinks and food order very rushed. Starters came out very fast and obviously throne together as we were the last people to order. The calamari was like rubber but the arancini was nice. When starters came I asked for a 2nd glass of wine which never came had to ask again for it, seemed that there was only 1 girl running around her self(she was helpful and clearly very busy) when the main course arrived it was hands down the wrose meal we have had, the king scallops were clear not pan fried, unfortunately on this occasion the customer is a chef. They where clearly put in a over with the potatoes with the roe still attracted, and cold water spinach at ÂŁ26.95 I would have expected more time and care put into our meal. We eaten 2 bits of the meal and that was enough. The waitress then asked if we where finished even with full plates, just seemed they did not wait us in at 8.40 if this was the case then please don't let people book tables at this time. After a long week of cooking food for other people I was looking forward to a relaxing night with good food unfortunately this never happened. From start to finish we where in and out in 30 mins. Only saving grace was the wine was...

Things started off great. Lovely atmosphere and decor. Prompt service to start with and great food, but midway through our night service went downhill. We were sat in the corner across from the bar and the entrance way. There was a large group in the opposite side which kept serving staff occupied. A big difference to our night would have been made if staff had simply glanced over to our table (when going between this group and the bar) so that we could get their attention but they didn’t.

Eventually when someone was available to take a drinks order after our mains, we waited so long that I was about to approach the bar, cancel it and just get the bill but they eventually showed up. No apology for the wait (I would have given those drinks for free coupled with an apology!) Overall, we felt neglected and forgotten about for most of our evening after the starters arrived.

Disappointing when Rocco seems to have so much else going for it. Politely made our feelings known when asked by a member of staff who said that she would pass on our feedback but that was it.

In terms of food, antipasto was excellent, pizzas and Spaghetti Carbonara were good. Tagliatelle Bolognese was bland and under-seasoned in our opinion. Desserts were good but the home made Tiramisu was a disappointment (couldn’t taste much coffee).

After the starters I said “we’re definitely coming back here” but after the whole experience I’m not so sure.

Might give it another go in future, might not. It’s a competitive market and there’s lots of others to...
