I'll be honest about this place because I don't want to be negative and sound like I'm trying to be mean.
The food in this place was great. It was very juicy, tasty and especially hot. The fries were just as good as the burgers. The portions were pretty generous. We really can't fault that at all.
There's lots of little issues else where. First off is the service. Look, the guy serving us was nice. Top bloke. No actually complaints with him personally. But this place really needs a single person out front to keep things in check. The food took a while to cook and that's okay, but the lack of communication with the customers is obviously a negative.
Also, the tables were sticky. Maybe it's the type of soap used because it didn't look or feel dirty. But it was a little icky to lean on.
The upstairs is quite loud, booming and echoey. It's fine for general chit chat. However, I'm going to sound right horrible for saying this. But when we went in, we were between two tables of kids who have learning difficulties and were quite loud. My wife and I have a lot of patience for these sort of things, but other people would have walked due to the noise amplified by the rooms acoustics. As an example, the children in the aquarium were undisciplined, loud and screaming. How awful would it have been if that crowd were in. It's hard on the ears and maybe some furnishings to lessen the empty room acoustics.
I know this sounds negative. But I'd happily come back. I mean, the food is what counts and we loved it. Got exactly what we wanted and were very happy to pay for it. Just some things need to be worked on.
All the best to you guys and we'll be back next time...
Read moreThis place just blew me away and I couldn’t be more happy about it. This is the hardest to find restaurant in St. Andrews, but my god is it worth it. To find this place, walk to the front entrance of the aquarium and then take the set of stairs to your right and follow your nose to sizzle of the Saints. Let’s break it down.
Taste- 5/5 the definition of a good cheeseburger. Meaty (and well seasoned) , cheesy, correct ratio of burger sauce, great toppings, and a bun that held everything together perfectly without being sweet or too much bread. The Cajun fries were well seasoned and salted to perfection.
Price- What put it over the top for me honestly. In my opinion, burgers are quite frequently overpriced in the UK for what you get and these guys are amazing for the quality burger you get. Our burgers today were 6.50 and 7 pounds.
Vibe- Beautiful view. They were playing Sixto Rodriguez and The Stones when we were there and the owner James is a great dude. Cooking everything fresh and by himself. Makes your visit feel really personal and I love that.
Final thought: Best burgers in St. Andrews without a doubt. Your messing up if your not eating here. ...
Read moreUpdate: Downgraded to 1 star for poor response from the owner! I was holding back in my review: your burgers are the definition of mediocre and bland. Hands down one of the worst burgers I've eaten. If you as a chef cannot take the heat, perhaps get out of the kitchen ;).
Anyway, I highly recommend any prospective customers try out the other nearby burger place in town. Clearly far nicer people working there. Same price point but actually enjoyable and high quality.
Original review:
We gave this place a shot after seeing the glowing reviews and were excited for a scrumptious burger. Unfortunately, I don’t understand the hype around Saint Sizzle. Both our burgers lacked juiciness and caramelisation of the patty. There was no caramelisation on the fried onions either. This lead to a dry burger with a distinct lack of umami flavour. We didn’t like the fries either- too sweet tasting from using a high starch content potato.
The type of burger you get here is very reminiscent of Five Guys (which I despise due to the dry texture and blandness). If you love Five Guys and underwhelming burgers, you’ll like probably like...
