Location: good. Staff: correct. Business plan: confusing/wrong.
Saturday, 7pm, September. 1.5 tables in versus 4 staff members. The 0.5 leaves after finishing cocktails.
It's called "brasserie", which together with "tartine" and "rillette" (no plural 's') lead to think there is some French vibe intended.
No brasserie options (that day, at least).
The tartine (tartinette?) was made with sourdough bread.
The salmon rillettes missing an 's' (as per French normal use) leads to the confusion of singular, ONE piece of salmon which...
was hot during the smoking process but not when served (another misleading menu description item); however, the word 'hot' appears in amongst the mess (see picture of menu).
The cold dish arrives to the table. I challenge the staff member and discuss the description on the menu.
The 4 staff members (by now, only our table was left in the brasserie) proceed to discuss loudly my questioning of the dish and its description by the kitchen, without me being invited to join the discussion.
That menu is printed with the date on it, therefore on a daily basis using high grammage, mid-gloss paper (£££).
Bonus1: with all the slippery-slope in linguistics above-mentioned... What do you try to say with (i) goats cheese, (ii) goat's cheese or (iii) goats' cheese (please, refer to menu picture again).
Bonus2: with the amount of costumers that day, the amount of staff whose wages need to be paid, and the cook leaving at 8pm (an hour early than closing time is announced), I wonder who are the targeted customers going to be there until 5pm on weekdays.
Bonus3: we were the only table (2 people) and we ordered two simple dishes (burger and my cold controversy). It took 20-25min to arrive.
It will take me visiting all other restaurants in Scotland before considering coming back to this one.
I find in the vicinity an Inn's bar, a Michelin star, a burger place, and a pub-bar. Without a clearer business plan, I fail to understand what niche is this not-brasserie trying to cover.
I see good intention and location opportunity, but unfortunately I cannot...
Read moreI recently visited this restaurant and was quite disappointed with the overall experience. Initially, they forgot one hot chocolate, and I had to remind them 2-3 times before it was finally brought to our table.
The food quality was equally disappointing. The beef did not taste fresh and had an off-putting smell. When we asked the staff to check it, they refused to test it, stating that since we had already eaten some, they could not do anything about it.
At the end of our meal, we requested to have the service charge removed due to our dissatisfaction. Ruby, one of the staff members, said it was not possible without even inquiring about our concerns. However, another staff member later agreed to remove it. Ruby left without offering an apology or explanation.
Additionally, I noticed an error in our bill calculation after I returned home.
Overall, the service and food quality were far from satisfactory, and the handling of our concerns was...
Read moreI read a lot of the reviews from different people. This is my review from my experience.
When I got in the ambiance of the place is a relaxed atmosphere, fresh and layed back.
I liked how that felt, the food came to the table quickly, I got the Chicken Katsu burger.
It was very good from my experience, I've had different kinds of chicken katsu and I enjoyed this version of it.
The service took a while to bring the check, I could look at this as slow, but given the atmosphere of the place, this is a place you go to chat and visit and slowly enjoy your food, so if you are in a bit of a hurry then this would not be the place to stop.
Overall my experience with staff wait and food was good.
I also liked the fact that they allowed someone to bring their dog in.
It did not...
