I go to the Smiddy regularly for food with the hubby or for drinks with friends and we are always greeted with a welcoming smile. Service is excellent, staff cannot do enough for you, any issues just ask and it's resolved immediately, nothing is too much trouble for the staff. They are all lovely, happy and accommodating. Food is excellent. Never had a meal I haven't enjoyed yet. Was at there Christmas party even last year and have booked again for this year. It was a great afternoon and had a great laugh with the family. Entertainer interacted with as many people as he could throughout his performance. It was the perfect way to start the holiday season. Beer garden is also amazing on a lovely summer day. Lots of space and loads of seats with umbrellas and shaded areas if you want to hide from the sun or heated areas if you are outside and it's cold. BONUS IS ......... you can take your dog in. They are treated like royalty. There are blankets, treats, water stations with various sized bowls and there is even a dog menu for them to have some food if you are eating. Staff come over for a cuddle (of the dog that is) so the dogs adore all the attention they get. They go home happy and so do we. Love this place and rarely go...
Read moreI am a regular at The Smiddy and feel the staff are most welcoming, thoughtful, responsive and friendly. However, on a recent visit (Wed 30/4) a very common issue/problem raised its head once more. On this particular afternoon there was one member of staff behind the bar. This poor girl had the task of serving customers who wanted a drink, customers who were ordering food and delivering food to both customers inside and outside the pub. There was also an instance where she had to go and change the Madri barrel on top of the aforementioned tasks. The girl's remit for the day was completely unachievable and impacted negatively on the service provided. I can only stress again that this is not a criticism in any shape or form on the staff but simply do not understand that such a problem is not an isolated incident.
I was at the Smiddy last night 17/5 for something to eat and it was most enjoyable indeed. We were a party of four and the orders of fish and chips for three and one chicken shawarma were superb. This coupled with the welcoming staff ensured it was a great visit. To be fair, the staff are always most welcoming which is a...
Read moreBooked table here for drinks to celebrate my birthday with a couple of friends. I have an 8 month old baby at home so I dont get the chance to get out much these days and with baby sitter all organised, I was really looking forward to the night. When we arrived we were informed that it would be at least 30mins wait until we could place any drink order. I had booked the table for drinks only on their webpage. It was 9pm and pub closes at Midnight so we had to pay for a taxi to go elsewhere. Its a shame, the Smiddy has a nice bar and restaurant and Im sure the staff were all working as hard as possible with pressures from COVID. But it really did upset our night. Perhaps they accepted too many bookings than they could actually accomodate with staff numbers. I actually tried to book a table for food about 3 months prior to this, which was cancelled the next day by staff. I dont think I will be trying to go back to the Smiddy for the...
