The Golden Swallow — Restaurant in Scotland

We’ve been going here regularly for years. And over the last few months it’s steadily gone downhill. Food quality, consistency and actually getting the order correct.

Tonight was the last straw.

Special chow mein tasted really off. I had a tiny bit of noodle and thought it didn’t taste right, then I bit into the king prawn. It was hard and crunchy (no shell!) like water chestnut and tasted really odd. I called them and said there was something wrong.

They told me to put it back in the container and to bring it back and asked if I wanted another. I declined and asked if I could have something else - the thought of another prawn or noodles was making me feel ill. I asked for beef and broccoli and a fried rice

Upon returning the dish, (no apology for inconvenience) I had to wait until they added up the price difference (£1.70). I told them I wasn’t paying the difference as I’d had to drive back to return it and wouldn’t have had to change it if there hadn’t been something wrong with the order. After much discussion in Cantonese I was told I’d have to pay to return a dish next time?? I shouldn’t have to return food I’ve ordered.

This place has continued to get worse lately and there’s inconsistency with dishes from night to night. Between that and the latest idiocy over returning a meal that I’ll be lucky I don’t end up ill from, we will not...

We used to be a regular to this place. The food was lovely and the price was fair. However, this place has gone downhill. Customer service is almost none. We went in on a quiet Thursday. On our way in, the waitress was already sleeping on the table. We didn't pay much attention at first. Then she made a comment while leading us to our table, saying "I'm so tired!". In a tone that implied we were a nuisance to her!! We ignored her, trying not to let that ruin our evening. She was very unattentive the whole time and was borderline rude on a few occassions. But we did enjoy the food, so we went back a few weeks later. The same staff again! She walked us to the table while still talking on WhatsApp. We don't need to be treated like royals but at least the minimum courtesy! We do feel very unwelcomed there. She might be the owner I don't know. If you don't want our business, we don't have to come...

So this place has been around since I was a kid, and it was always a real treat when the rents' decided "Saturday nite, let's get a Chinese!". Tried it for the first time in about 10 years last nite, got a delivery and it was just appalling to see how low the standard of the food has fell, especially for the price.

If your charging 3 star restaurant prices for delivery, you should probably make sure it pretty decent!

Unfortunately not the case on this occasion, it tasted bland, like no real flavour other than the char sue meat, don't get me wrong the delivery time was phenomenal as was the phone service, but the food its self was just lacking from what my partner and my myself can remember when they were in their glory days.

Unfortunately due to the issues I've pointed out, I can't see me other the missus being back, nor shall I be recommending then to people...
